Overview:

M&J Engineering, P.C. is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer with at least 2 years of Assistant Resident Engineering and Office Engineer experience to join our construction management team on construction projects within the NYC Metropolitan Area.

Excellent communications and client relations skills are a must, with the ability to assist with the management of field personnel and work as a team player.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE), under the supervision of the Resident Engineer, acts in a support role to the RE. The ARE is situated at the work location and fills the role of the RE when they are unavailable. In addition, the ARE performs the duties of the Office Engineer as the need arises.
Supervise inspection staff and Assistant Resident Engineer to complete assignments and delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with client’s requirements Act as liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors’ RFI's and review of shop drawings.

Provides daily on-site construction management and site inspections. Provides technical review of construction plans, specifications, and project changes for constructability and practicality.

Undertakes responsibility for contract administration of one or more multiple concurrent construction projects.
  • Committed to making certain that the project moves smoothly, ensuring teamwork, efficiency, and clear communication with project team members including contractors, agencies, and staff.
  • Serves as the on-site field administrator of activities related to construction projects, field orders, submittals, and project documentation.
  • Duties may include basic contract management, field engineering, site inspection, budget and schedule control, and project documentation including submittal review and processing, request for information (RFI) processing, photographic records, and daily construction logs.
  • Participates in site investigations and the evaluation of design information.
  • Assists in the development of site conditions reports and the initial documentation for design.
  • Manages project submittal/RFI workflow and participates in engineering review(s) meetings.
  • Collaborates closely within client, project team and other key stakeholders.
  • Completes additional project management responsibilities as needed.
  • Construction engineering work including setting up and maintaining project files; writing contract change orders; processing required documents and progress payments, as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains an organized and complete set of records and procedures for the project.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on change orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2+ years of experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer and/or Office Engineer on water/wastewater projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management from ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • NYCDEP experience is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
