Position: Assistive Technology Specialist (Part-Time)

Description of Duties: The Assistive Technology Specialist for Student Access Services will assist students and staff in identifying, acquiring, or utilizing assistive technology (including Operating Systems and available apps) necessary to access course materials/learning management systems; acquiring and/or converting course materials for accessibility.
Research availability of accessible version(s) of current textbooks. Then, as needed, create, adapt, convert, and modify course related materials into accessible formats using available assistive technology. Provide training to students with disabilities on how to use available assistive technology in order to use the equipment and software independently.
In the scope of universal access, provide similar assistance/support to any student. Coordinate with internal sources (i.e. E-Learning, faculty) to ensure course materials and design (i.e., website/s, Canvas) meet student needs. Coordinate with external sources (i.e., Bookshare, Assistive Text Network, publishers) to obtain accessible text materials.
Locate, contact, and coordinate with external software liaison(s) regarding optimal use of/upgrades to RSC purchased software (i.e., Glean, Read&Write). Promote and demonstrate accessible educational materials and Assistive Tech to the campus.
Assist, as appropriate, with "test reader/scribe" duties for students receiving assistive tech accommodations in the Academic Testing Center. Provide general office support and perform other related duties as assigned for the Student Services office.
Maintain files for equipment checkout.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma. Equivalent, or relevant certification(s). Experience using adaptive technology. Ability to teach others how to use available software and equipment that is available through Rose State College. Good written and verbal communication skills.
Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well especially with students with disabilities and staff. Aptitude and interest to learn new technologies and assistive technologies as needed and to keep skills updated. Willingness to seek out new technologies and/or updates as needed.
Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of principles of ADA/Section 504 & 508 and other federal, state, and institutional disability policies and legislation. Familiarity with adaptive equipment/software and understanding of technology used in producing accessible texts and classroom materials preferred.

An unofficial degree conferring transcripts must be received by this office for formal consideration; however, should an offer of employment be extended, official transcripts are required.
All finalists may be subject to a background check and/or drug test.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
