Overview:

To be responsible for the treatment of athletic injuries and execution of rehabilitation, under the guidance of team physician's orders, by developing therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility. Provides coverage at all team events to include pre-season, regular season and post-season.

Provides exercise instruction and demonstration, as well as patient evaluation and testing, to assist in recovery from injury, to avoid injury, or to maintain physical fitness.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)
  1. Performs the functions of prevention, assessment, treatment, and reconditioning, under the guidance of the team Physician's orders and as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification.
  2. Executes rehabilitation in conjunction with team Physician's orders.
  3. Develops treatment programs in accordance with findings of evaluations and goals established by the injury assessment or by the treating physician.
  4. Assesses patient status in response to treatment and modifies programs, as appropriate.
  5. Documents injury status and rehabilitation.
  6. Communicates with and Informs team Physician and team General Manager of any necessary documentation or observable signs that need investigation.
  7. Schedules treatment and/or other interventions, as necessary and established.
  8. Prepares patient for treatment and ensures comfort and safety.
  9. Applies treatment procedures and modalities in accordance with established indications and contraindications.
  10. Instructs patient in therapeutic exercise, and strength and conditioning programs.
  11. Ensures proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment, based on patient's condition.
  12. Provides coverage at all workouts, practices, open tryouts, and games, to include pre-season, regular season and post-season.
  13. Travels with team to all road games.
  14. Keeps track of medical history, medical information and emergency contact information for all players, coaches and support staff.
  15. Coordinates with team General Manager on all workers' compensation claims.
  16. Keeps team Field Manager appraised on all player injuries.
  17. Recommends and prepares list of necessary medical supplies and submits for ordering and approval.

Qualifications: JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Considerable knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span.
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information.
  • Demonstrates oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
EDUCATION
  • Program of study to include Athletic Training as required by Board of Certification requirements.
  • Bachelors Exercise science/physical education Required
  • Masters Exercise science/physical education Preferred
  • 2 years experience in athletic training is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with sports teams is also preferred.
  • 2 Rehabilitation Services Strongly Preferred
  • IN Athletic Trainer License
  • Indiana Athletic Trainer License
  • Certified Athletic Trainer � BOCNATA Certified Athletic Trainer - Board of Certification National Athletic Trainers Association Certified
  • Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
