MGO is growing and we are looking for motivated, hardworking and dynamic Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) Experienced Associate or Senior Associate with a strong passion for public accounting and client services to join the team.A career in our public FAAS (client accounting services) sector will provide you with opportunities to learn and develop technical accounting, client service and supervisory skills both hands-on working directly with clients and through continuous firm training and staff development initiatives.
The Experienced/Senior Associate will primarily serve cannabis industry clients. This position will be worked on a flexible schedule, in-office three days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Senior Associate:
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes for assigned clients, including reconciliations, journal entries, consolidations, and adjustments, ensuring timely and accurate financial statement preparation in compliance with U.S. GAAP and client-specific requirements.
- Review and prepare financial statements, footnote disclosures, and other required reports, providing insights and recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
- Analyze and interpret financial data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
- Support tax preparation, including the timely filing of sales tax, 1099s, and other related filings.
- Assist with technical accounting research and draft memos on accounting treatment for complex transactions.
- Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering a culture of learning, development, and professional growth.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting workflows and reduce operational risks.
- Stay current on accounting standards, industry best practices, and technological advancements, ensuring application of the latest knowledge in client engagements.
Experienced Associate:
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual accounting activities for assigned clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of tasks such as bank and credit card transactions, AP/AR processing, journal entries posting, and month-end closing reconciliations.
- Identify and resolve client-specific accounting issues, anomalies, and non-routine transactions.
- Prepare financial reports, analyses, and reconciliations, and assist with audit preparation, including compiling necessary documentation and coordinating with auditors and clients.
- Maintain compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and procedures, while staying current on accounting standards, industry best practices, and software solutions.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, engagement teams, and stakeholders, ensuring smooth collaboration and clear reporting.
- Proactively anticipate and resolve complex accounting and engagement-related challenges.
- Provide accounting training to clients and internal staff as needed.
- Prepare and file 1099s, perform sales tax filings, and assist the tax department with tax return preparation.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principle.
- Experience with month-end closing financial statement preparation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, and NetSuite.
- Ability to conduct technical accounting research and draft memos.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Senior Associate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA (or working toward CPA certification) strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in financial accounting, external audit, or financial advisory services.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct and NetSuite is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional client service, with flexibility and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
Experienced Associate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA eligibility or working toward certification preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in public accounting, audit, or financial reporting.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, D365 and SAP is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn.
Success Factors:

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000
