Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer in our Columbia, MD office. The candidate will work on complex geoenvironmental projects involving innovative civil design with unique water management and geotechnical challenges at landfills, coal combustion residuals sites, contaminated sites, and dams.

The candidate will also take a leading role in project management tasks for various civil design projects involving technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and/or reviewing technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for civil design, site development, grading, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment controls;
  • Completing or reviewing civil and stormwater management design packages, including detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses;
  • Preparing stormwater and erosion and sediment control designs for permitting in the State of Maryland and local Maryland jurisdictions;
  • Incorporating the principles of environmental site design;
  • Performing stormwater infrastructure design and analysis;
  • Developing floodplain mapping and flood mitigation and protection designs;
  • Modeling watersheds and stormwater runoff;
  • Performing task-level or project management responsibilities;
  • Developing strong collaborative relationships and interacting with client representatives and internal Geosyntec colleagues;
  • Coordinating work efforts with multi-disciplinary project teams; and
  • Supporting lead generation, business development, recruiting, staff development, and mentoring consistent with our sell-manage-do business model.

Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or related discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience performing and reviewing civil design and site development. (required)
  • Familiarity with stormwater and erosion and sediment control regulations and understanding of the permitting process in the mid-Atlantic or Northeast region. (required)
  • Familiarity with stormwater and erosion and sediment control regulations and understanding of the permitting process in Maryland. (preferred)
  • Experience with relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil3D, HydroCAD, SWMM, HY8, and HEC-RAS). (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees.

Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $89,605/year / Maximum Salary: $116,485/year (Columbia, MD)
