Sr Compliance Administrator, IBC
Overview:
Princeton University seeks a highly motivated, well-qualified individual to serve as the IBC Administrator (Senior Compliance Administrator), Research Integrity and Assurance (RIA) supporting the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). RIA is responsible for developing and implementing research compliance programs in the areas of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), IBC, and Conflict of Interest (COI).This position presents a unique and challenging opportunity to support and advance the university’s world-class research enterprise by ensuring a successful program of biosafety.
Under the supervision of the RIAs Associate Director - IACUC/IBC/PAM, and in collaboration with other Compliance Administrators and units within Princeton University, the IBC-Senior Compliance Administrator assists in ensuring Princeton University's program of biosafety facilitates research while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines.This will be accomplished by working as part of a team to perform any number of capacities independently, including, but not limited to, overseeing the IBC review and approval process, IBC meetings (minutes, agendas, documents), policy review and preparation, training and lab inspections, data and metrics, and assisting PIs and IBC members in the preparation and review of applications.
The IBC-Senior Compliance Administrator will also participate in projects to support of the program's improvement of efficiency and effectiveness.
The successful candidate will bring to the University a strong background in research administration, including broad and nuanced knowledge of compliance regulations, expertise in molecular biology, and have a proven track record supporting a robust research compliance program.S/he will have outstanding interpersonal and management skills, a collaborative style, be customer service focused, and have a reputation for successfully working with faculty, staff, and students in achieving their research goals.
Responsibilities:
The IBC Senior Compliance Administrator oversees the IBC review process and has oversight of administrative and technical activities in support of the IBC committee. The IBC Senior Compliance Administrator will:- Provide initial administrative review of all IBC submissions
- Work in conjunction with the Institutional Biosafety Officer and IBC Chair
- Review registrations for completeness and accuracy and determine how the IBC registration will be processed
- Using the electronic system, route all submissions in accordance with established processes and in an efficient and timely manner (following up and/or assisting with PIs and reviewers as needed)
- Serve as the primary liaison between the IBC and Principal Investigators (PIs), providing consultation to PIs regarding the IBC registration processes, policies, and procedures
- Review research registrations for potential Dual Use of Concern
- Oversee and execute the preparation, organization, and dissemination of registration materials in advance of each IBC meeting
- Manage committee process, schedule and organize meetings, and record IBC meeting minutes
- Maintain metrics and databases used to track research registration data/information and to keep IBC registrations current
- Monitor current regulations and trends and work with the Biosafety Officer to update current regulatory requirements relating to biosafety
- Offer recommendations regarding standards, policies and procedures that facilitate compliance and serve as a resource to research personnel
- Assist in determining training based on risks identified in the IBC research registration
- Update IBC committee memberships and appointments as needed
- Work with post-approval monitor to audit IBC-approved research projects
- Work with the IACUC coordinator on grant congruency reviews and to ensure congruency between IACUC protocols and IBC registrations
- Assist with updating the IBC- RIA website content
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Maintain the IBC registration with NIH
- Provide updates regarding committee membership and reporting requirements as necessary to the NIH Office of Science Policy
- Facilitating updates and modifications of IBC application form and related processes to improve efficiency and align with current regulation
- Special projects, as assigned, to support of the programs improvement of efficiency and effectiveness
Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of five(5) years of experience working in biosafety, research, or laboratory setting, preferably at an institution of higher education.
- Good working knowledge of the NIH recombinant DNA guidelines, and other general safety and occupational health regulatory requirements including OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Experience with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees
- Skilled in concise writing and excellent communication skills;
- Strong problem solving skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and balance many competing priorities;
- Highly responsive and solution/action oriented;
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels with proven ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations;

- Evidence of successful experience in a customer service role; and
- Strong computing skills (Word, Excel, MSTeams, PowerPoint, etc)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with electronic protocol review/management systems;
- Master’s degree
- Experience in research activities conducted at BSL3/ABSL3 (or higher)
- Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) or Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) credentials.
- Experience in presenting/public speaking
