POSITION TITLE: Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Lead
POSITION DUTIES:
Produces accurate laboratory test results following established procedures and within designated turnaround time period, notifies supervisor of exceptional results, and organizes pending work appropriately for follow-up, including writing manual results or work records legibly and completely and reporting results accurately on work lists, logs, and via computer.[5%]
Performs required calibrations, daily and periodic preventive maintenance and quality control (QC) procedures according to the standard, operating procedure (SOP) documenting results and actions properly. [10%]Troubleshoots and attempts to resolve problems relating to testing (e.g., QC out of range, inappropriate specimens, reagent or instrument or equipment problems). [10%]
Processes and handles specimens, ordering required tests. [5%]
Assists manager with scheduling and coordinating workflow and test performance. [10%]
Notifies supervisor of discrepant results or problems and completes corrective action report form, as necessary. [10%]
Reviews quality control results and quality assurance reports, reagents, kits, anti-microbial susceptibility testing, equipment and media, and follows up on out-of-range results. [10%]Performs efficiency testing and evaluation of new products or procedures, and submits a Reporting/Evaluation form within the required time frame. [10%]
Reports complaints from patients, physicians, staff, or other individuals to lab section manager. [10%]
Telephones results when necessary and documents action according to SOP. [5%]
Maintains appropriate number of supplies and notifies supervisor as appropriate of supply problems. [15%]
Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology related field or equivalent
Experience Requirement: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist, Clinical Research Coordinator or closely related occupation involving experience in clinical laboratory testing.

Specific Requirements:
Knowledge of laboratory test methods, specimen requirements, test limitations, test interpretations sufficient to perform tests accurately and to recognize and analyze problems effectively.Skill in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
Skill in performance of manual and automated test procedures.
Skill in the recognition and analysis of problems in laboratory test performance.
Skill in phlebotomy.
A valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License is required.
