We are seeking a Controller to join our team in the non-profit sector in Norfolk, Virginia. The Controller will be a key figure in managing and maintaining the financial strength of our organization. This role involves streamlining budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes, and producing financial-status reports to improve operational efficiency and support continued growth.
Responsibilities:- Develop financial strategies and plans for the organization
- Analyze financial reporting packages and streamline the process
- Act as a leader for the financial accounting department
- Develop and implement annual and quarterly budgets
- Establish internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, administration, and other activities
- Direct budgeting, procurement, investment activities, and financial planning
- Evaluate, analyze, and report appropriate data points to provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers
- Apply company policies and procedures to current economic landscape to guide financial decisions
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
- Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development
- Support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
- Coordinate with CFO to establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Consistently implement accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Ensure the efficient operations flow by performing other duties as assigned. • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management roles within the Non-Profit sector
- Proficiency in accounting software systems
- Familiarity with '3M', 'ADP - Financial Services', 'CRM', and 'Crystal Reports'
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting functions including Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Experience in auditing and budget processes
- Ability to manage complex financial analysis and reporting
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing a finance team
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred
- Strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity
- Ability to strategize and solve problems
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and legislation.
