This position would be aligned with any of these offices: Cincinnati, OH, Chicago, IL, Orlando, FL, New York, NY, and would support full-time in-person or hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for leading engineering projects, aligning with strategic and KPI goals, managing proposals, overseeing phase management, and ensuring effective resource forecasting. The ideal candidate will have exceptional leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, this role includes perform structural engineering technical work on complex projects, applying their proficiency in designing, analyzing, and reviewing structural systems to ensure safety, stability, and compliance with industry standards.
This role also engages in company-wide initiatives that drive our business forward with innovative solutions and plays a crucial part in shaping the direction of the engineering team by identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement and fosters an environment where creative and progressive thinking is encouraged.

Essential Functions:

As an Engineering Team Leader at Woolpert, you will:

  • Lead structural engineering technical work for complex projects.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Tracking progress and provide detailed performance reports regularly.
  • Oversee team budget for Travel & Entertainment and Continuing Education expenses.
  • Review and approve timesheets and expense reports, ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Manage and approve Paid Time Off (PTO) and vacation requests, ensuring adequate staffing levels during absences.
  • Address HR and personnel items, working closely with HR to resolve conflicts and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Guide the hiring process for new team members, from job posting to final selection.
  • Build career development plans to support the growth and advancement of team members.

Leadership & Project Management:

  • Craft project proposals, scope, schedules, and fee structures, and work with stakeholders to clearly communicate and satisfy project needs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date backlog of ongoing and upcoming projects and conduct resource forecasting for efficient allocation and utilization of team members.
  • Develop and manage project and staffing plans, adjusting them as necessary to meet changing project needs.
  • Oversee engineering project phases from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical expert and discipline representative at various meetings and events as required.
  • Deliver presentations at conferences, networking events, and professional organizations to highlight the distinctive and innovative services Woolpert offers to clients.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal employees when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and fifteen (15) years related experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership role within an engineering environment.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Expert verbal and written communication abilities for both internal and external relationships.
  • Experience with discipline related software applications and calculation tools.
  • Designing and 3-D modeling in Autodesk Revit and directing the preparation of construction documents.
  • Significant experience in QAQC and coordination of design documents between disciplines.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents including scientific and technical journals, handbooks, and industry information.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and MS Office suite.
  • Able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
  • Able to write technical opinions, articles, and thought leadership social media using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
  • Willing to travel to project sites or offices, as needed.
