Software Development Engineer, AWS Fault Injection Service
The problem that we are tackling is challenging and ambiguous. We are taking an innovative approach to solving it that draws on a blend of academic theory, scientific experimentation and analysis, and pragmatic systems engineering. At the same time, we are intensely customer-focused, and we work closely with engineers across AWS to help analyze their service and put in place protective mechanisms with the right performance and availability trade-offs.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our team who will own and implement key components of the Pisa tool suite, ranging from implementations of admission control schemes and retry policies, through to scaling the infrastructure we use for modeling and simulation.
Our ideal candidate will have experience working with large-scale distributed systems and will be passionate about operational excellence. You will write maintainable, well-tested code (in Python and Java), but won’t be afraid to move fast with a prototype when needed, and to use your creativity and problem-solving skills to overcome unforeseen challenges. You will be comfortable digging in to unfamiliar code, dashboards and documentation to discover how things work, and will be fascinated by how complex systems behave, especially how they fail and how they recover. You will enjoy the intellectual aspects of working closely with scientists, but will also relish the opportunity to positively impact services that are relied on by customers around the world.
