Overview:

Under the guidance of the Vice President of Behavioral Health Services, the Director of Behavioral Health Services, provides services designed to maximize the intellectual, social and emotional development and functioning of people receiving services.
Directs the daily operations of behavioral health supports and services. Provides oversight and supervision to the Citizens behavioral health staff and supervisors, including Behavior Intervention Specialists, BCBA, Senior BIS, Assistant Directors of Behavioral Health Services, Camp BIS.

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to the Assistant Directors of Behavioral Health Services, BCBA, Senior BIS for the ICF’s and Camp BIS.
  • Directs, supervises and monitors the delivery of clinical services/department to ensure appropriate and relevant clinical/behavioral services to people we serve. Responsible for developing and monitoring of clinical/behavioral systems as well as delivery of services within the programs (IRA’s, ICF’s and Camp).
  • Confers with appropriate staff to discuss present resident’s behavioral/psychiatric status as needed and to ensure the ongoing communication of pertinent information.
  • Liaison with related community agencies, other agency programs, providers, families, etc. in person and by phone to secure and direct delivery of appropriate program/agency resources.
  • Review of Behavior Support Plans written by BIS staff, as needed.
  • Develops and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and institutes corrective action as necessary to maximize services.
  • Provides leadership in personnel, people supported, and program administrators by review and final approval of policies and procedures.
  • Participate in various agency-wide committees and subcommittees (i.e. Human Rights Committee, Incident Review Committee, Transition Committee, etc.)
  • Executes program budget by allocation of program resources, in order to maintain adequate resources and control of expenditures.
  • Teach agency wide trainings in the areas of Autism, Positive Behavior Support, Applied Behavior Analysis, Aging, and Sexuality, and other trainings as necessary
  • Provide clinical supervision related to functional behavior assessments and behavior support plans for the Citizens IRA’s and ICF’s, and BIS/Senior BIS staff
  • Work with Program Director’s for additional agencies (i.e. BCCS, AHRC) to ensure frequent and efficient communication regarding psychological services.
  • Maintain contact with Advantage Care clinic staff and staff psychiatrists to coordinate care of services for psychiatry appointments
  • Participate in screenings for new people admitted to Citizens and develop pre admission plans as needed.
  • Provides clinical supervision to Camp Loyaltown Behavior Intervention Specialist.
  • Maintain SCIP-R Instructor certification on annual basis (teach one full SCIP-R course and 2 recertification trainings per year).
  • Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of the person that resides there (i.e., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.).
  • Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse of neglect. Additionally, must follow all agency incident policy and procedures.
  • Adheres to Federal and New York State regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook and agency and program training requirements.
  • Successfully completes and maintains annual training and any other required trainings.
  • Provide and/or arrange coverage of caseloads as necessary
  • Provides or coordinates crisis intervention supports when required

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a program in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology required and must have documented training in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development.
  • Must have at least ten (10) years of experience working directly with individuals with IDD, and at least five (5) years supervisory experience.
