Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey.These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Electrician Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position is primarily responsible for the planning and coordination of such electrical duties as the installation and repair of wiring, fixtures, lighting, control and alarm systems, etc.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Repairs and maintains generators and motors.
- Installs electrical conduits.
- Assists in work on switch gear and wiring for 480 volts systems.
- Cleans shop and work areas.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary.
- Conducts inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Advises management when to reorder stock.
- Responsible for estimating work time, writing up lists of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for him/herself or the group.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience - High school/vocational school education or equivalent.- Must be a qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey or have completed an apprenticeship training program approved by the US Department of Labor that deals specifically with electrical work and is a minimum duration of three years.
- Must maintain journeyman certification while in job title.
- Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
- Must be competent in performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and circuitry including industrial power wiring and switch gear for 480 volt systems.
Preferred Qualifications - May be required to obtain Commercial Driver's License.
