A top family owned construction business in the Newington area is adding an Accounting Manager/ Controller to their team! The successful candidate will manage a range of accounting functions, utilize various accounting software systems, and oversee project accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable/ billing. This role provides a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Work with CFO to develop, monitor, and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Track project expenses, including materials, labor, subcontractors, and overhead costs.
- Conduct regular cost analyses and identify areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvement.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing, invoicing, and collections.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Analyze financial data to provide insights into project performance, variances, and trends.
- Generate ad hoc financial reports and analyses as required by management.
- Present financial information to key stakeholders, including senior management and project teams.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accounting principles, and company policies.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies as necessary.
- Identify potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, estimating teams, and accounting staff to align financial goals with project objectives.
- Provide guidance and support to project teams on financial matters.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration within the finance and project management departments.
- Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes, systems, and procedures.
- Implement best practices to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
- Drive initiatives to automate repetitive tasks and improve data accuracy and timeliness.
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Construction Accounting role
- Proficiency in Accounting Software, ideally with Sage
- Experience working for a general contractor required
- Strong GAAP accounting experience, including month end close, financial statement preparation, financial reporting, account analysis and reconciliations.
- Experience in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management is required
- Experience in Project Accounting is preferred.
- Supervisory experience is required
