Clinical Registry Abstracter, Cardiac surgery/Heart and Vascular- Full-Time Days

Job Description:

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine as a Clinical Registry Abstractor in the Department of Cardiac surgery and the Heart and Vascular Center . Here, you will support clinical performance through abstraction, review, and reporting of clinical data to support initiatives related to quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The CRA is responsible for collecting clinical data from medical records for the timely submission into data registries and other clinical information systems within the organization. The CRA will use clinical knowledge and background to provide complete and accurate data and information regarding patient care as documented in the medical record.

The CRA obtains appropriate clinical documentation through collaborative communications with the database manager, PAs, ICU, floor staff, and surgeons.

Essential Job Functions
  • Reviews both paper and electronic medical records to accurately interpret and record required data.
  • Reviews and becomes familiar with documentation in order to correctly interpret data according to the regulations.
  • Adhere to data submission reporting deadlines.
  • Communicate project and status and key project issues to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism through interaction, appearance, attitude, and written and oral communication with visitors, co-workers, physicians, and other hospital personnel as to represent the department as a high quality service area of the Hospitals.
  • Acknowledges and supports Hospitals defined goals and approach to patient care; attends regular training sessions and management classes to improve patient and customer communications.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or suggested by the Manager, Director, Associate and Technical Directors.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of medical Terminology experience
  • Strong Computer and Organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and Administrative staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or other clinical degree or certificate
  • Experience with Registries and/or databases, preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.

Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
