Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Water Resources Professional (Engineer, Hydrogeologist, Scientist, etc.) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The role involves leading and assisting our growing water resource engineering and management team.The position’s responsibilities include identifying and spearheading business development opportunities in Utah’s water resources, as well as contributing to various current and future projects across the Western United States. Familiarity with Utah’s water laws, water rights, and water banking, is advantageous.
Utah is grappling with limited water resources to manage escalating demand. The state’s water users are perpetually confronted with challenging and fluctuating conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be engaged in a wide range of technical duties and business development within our growing water resources practice, with a focus on projects in Utah. Building on your past work experience with mentorship from our senior staff, your typical responsibilities will include:
- Leading client and agency interactions, including presenting technical information to state and local agencies and the public;
- Leading business development for Utah water resources opportunities, staff development, and mentoring;
- Developing water resource engineering and management studies, including water banking, water rights, and managed aquifer recharge studies;
- Evaluating hydrology, groundwater, water quality, and water demand data in the context of water supply management;
- Reviewing and interpreting water right files relative to Utah State law, Utah Division of Water Rights policies & guidance, and case law;
- Reviewing and interpreting water use data, metering data, land use, and crop records;
- Conducting field investigations, including estimation of water use, well inspections, streamflow monitoring, and a range of related activities to support water resource projects;
- Performing simple to complex quantitative spreadsheet analyses;
- Performing a range of water right permitting activities including new and change applications, administrative divisions, permit extensions, municipal conformances, and helping develop certification recommendations; and
- Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, natural resources science, watershed sciences, environmental management, or environmental science with an emphasis on water resources or a closely related discipline. (required)
- Advanced degree in engineering, geology, natural resources science, watershed sciences, environmental management, or environmental science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (preferred)
- Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G. CPESC, CPSWG). (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience as a water resources engineering or management professional or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Familiarity with Utah’s water laws, water rights, and water banking, including the Water Banking Act (Utah Code 73-31-101(20)). (required)
- An outstanding track record in client management and technical leadership. (preferred)
- Project experience involving water resources, groundwater recharge, water banking, and water rights. (preferred)
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS pro and ArcGIS Online). (preferred)
- Strong written communication skills. (required)
- Experience with grant writing. (preferred)
- Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
