Job Overview:

The Virtual Companion CNA is responsible for remotely monitoring up to 12 patients simultaneously in a Med-Surg (Medical-Surgical) environment, ensuring their safety and providing effective communication to address patient needs. This position involves working onsite in Phoenix, AZ, as part of Dignity Health's Virtual Hospital Setting.

Shift Details:

• Shift Length: 12 hours (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift Notes: Night shifts with weekend and holiday rotation as needed. Orientation requires 2-3 day shifts.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide virtual supervision and companionship for patients identified as at-risk (e.g., fall risk, disorientation, elopement risk, wandering).
• Observe for behaviors such as pulling at tubes/lines, contraband use, or signs of overdose/ETOH withdrawal.
• Redirect and communicate effectively with patients using computer-based communication tools.
• Notify appropriate clinical staff promptly in situations requiring immediate intervention.
• Collaborate with the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in acute or long-term care settings preferred.
• Certifications: BLS required. CNA certification preferred; CMA also acceptable.
• Skills:
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer systems and remote communication tools.
• Ability to manage stress and remain calm under pressure.
• Knowledge of when to escalate situations for immediate clinical response.

• ETOH/overdose monitoring
• Wandering behaviors
• Staff Ratios: Monitoring up to 12 patients at a time.

Additional Position Details:

• Orientation Hours: 12 hours
• Charting System: CERNER
• Dress Code: Business casual (no open-toed shoes or fuzzy slippers); scrubs not required.
• Floating Requirements: May be assigned to operator services within the same location.
• Weekend Requirement: Two full weekends or four weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule.
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Call/Standby Requirement: None

Additional Notes:

• This is an onsite position, not remote. You will be working in an office with other staff members, monitoring patients from multiple hospitals in various states.
• Strict no cell phone policy; the hospital provides a work phone for communication.
• The facility does not sign timesheets.
• Candidates must not have another job while on assignment.
