Position Summary:

Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology and/or vascular sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field.
  • Leads others in complex problem solving.
  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions.
  • Works independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.
  • Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
  • Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
  • Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for nterpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under
established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing

International (CCI) guidelines.

Licensure/Certification
  • Maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must maintain one of the following:
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
(ARDMS) in fetal echocardiography; or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS);
or
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer
(RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); or
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Experience
A minimum of 3 years’ experience.
Able to perform routine echocardiology exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Echocardiography and/or vascular sonography exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Imaging, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Carotid Ultrasound, Venous Doppler Upper and Lower Extremities, and Arterial Duplex Upper and Lower Extremities.

Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.

Must demonstrate competency in performing at least TEN of the following ECHO and/or Vascular exams: 3-D, Strain, Exercise Stress Echocardiography, Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Complex Valve, Watchman, Post Processing, Contrast Studies, Agitated Saline Studies, Transesophageal (TEE), Surgical TEE, Complex Cardiac Shunts, Pericardiocentesis, Single Ventricle, TOF, AVC, TGA, ECMO Cannula Position, Complex Heterotaxy, ASD Septostomy, PDA Closure Cath, Venous Insufficiency, Visceral, Segmental Physiology Upper Extremity, Access Grafts, Hemodialysis Access, Venous Ablation Procedures, Ultrasound Guidance, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Temporal Artery, Transcranial Imaging, Transcranial PFO Evaluation, Transcranial Emboli Detection, Transcranial Vasomotor Reactivity or Thoracic Bow Hunter’s Syndrome.
