Policy Communications Specialist, AWS Communications

AWS is looking for a self-motivated and experienced public relations professional to join its U.S. Policy Communications team. This role will drive awareness among key media and policy stakeholders of AWS’s federal advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers, industries, and the communities where we operate.

The right candidate possesses strong media relations and PR experience, is an expert at translating complex technology concepts into concise and well-written narratives, has experience supporting policy initiatives, and has a demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into technology, understanding how it is shaping and redefining our world, and engaging business, inside-the-beltway, and technology media. They are motivated by a dynamic, highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome.

In this role, the candidate will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and also support AWS customers. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, experience driving proactive campaigns, and a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.

This role will be based in the greater Washington, D.C area and may require periodic travel.

Key job responsibilities
  • Work closely with the AWS Public Policy team to drive awareness of AWS’s federal advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers, industries, and the communities where we operate
  • Develop communications plans, written content, and other communications assets in support of AWS’s policy objectives
  • Support a broad range of external communications programs and events aligned with AWS’s policy objectives
  • Establish and foster local, regional, and national media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about AWS
  • Provide communications counsel to business leaders
  • Work cross-functionally to plan and execute PR campaigns- 5+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
  • Bachelor's degree- Experience managing media relationships and working with third parties engaged on technology policy
  • Ability to dive deep on public policy issues related to cloud, cybersecurity, AI/ML, and related topics.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of technology, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done
  • Strong judgement, a knack for diplomacy, and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $68,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $147,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
