Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission is to create economic opportunity for women and gender-expansive people, immigrants, and people of color through culinary skills training, high-quality job placement, food entrepreneurship programs, and an ecosystem of support, utilizing New York City’s vibrant food industry as a catalyst for change.

Since our founding, we have served 1,800+ members, placed 650+ members in high-quality jobs, and supported 550+ entrepreneurs to launch small food businesses.

Hot Bread Kitchen offers small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement bolstered by individualized wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports women entrepreneurs of color as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources.
Culinary Fundamentals, our entry-level culinary training program, provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry. In contrast, our Upskilling and Job Quality Initiatives program enables incumbent workers to gain further skills leading to higher wages and career advancement.

We use an ecosystem approach to support our members by working alongside our network of 200+ food employer partners for job placement and 250+ nonprofit and government partners for member referrals and community engagement.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Hot Bread Kitchen seeks a highly motivated and resourceful part-time Culinary Case Manager who will provide direct support services to members of Hot Bread Kitchen’s Culinary Training program located in the Bronx. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of social work practices and a passion for client facing work.
This position will be integral to the culinary instruction team, providing on-site case management services ensuring Hot Bread Kitchen members have the resources and tools to meaningfully participate and successfully complete the program. This position is a temporary, part-time position with evening hours (4PM - 8PM) and will be based at our community outpost in the Bronx.

This position reports to the Member Engagement Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Culinary Case Manager will be responsible for:

  • Case Management
  • Provide direct support services and case management for members of the career training program.
  • Deploy motivational interviewing techniques as appropriate to help guide participants to goal achievement.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to advocate for member needs.
  • Support with member engagement across Hot Bread Kitchen’s other programs as needed.
  • Instructional Assistance
  • Support culinary instructors, playing an active role and presence in daily kitchen training.
  • Teach professional readiness to members enrolled in career programs.
  • Data Entry and Program Logistics
  • Maintain accurate and up to date member records in Salesforce; update progress notes consistently and in real time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong passion for Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or human services preferred.
  • Must have direct service experience or 1-3 years experience in case management.
  • Experience in working with and supporting diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with all types of personalities and leadership levels.
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently and diligently with efficient organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have some facilitation experience, preferably for teaching soft skills or professional readiness.
  • Computer proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace Suite.
  • Ability to think and problem solve creatively.
  • Other language proficiency is a plus! (French, Bengali, Arabic, Spanish)
  • Familiarity with navigating NYC’s support systems. (affordable housing, childcare, mental health, public benefits, etc.)

Location and hours

This position requires regular in-person attendance at our evening Culinary Outpost location in the Bronx starting February 10, 2025. The hours are 4:00PM to 8:00PM, five days per week for an eight week period with the need for some flexibility in work hours.

Compensation

This is an 8-week position (20 hours per week from 4pm-8pm). The compensation will be $31.00 per hour. This is a temporary position with some eligibility for benefits including paid prenatal leave, sick leave, and short-term disability.
