Overview:

Electronics Technicians perform electrical and electronic testing in accordance with test procedures and present results for inspection to demonstrate satisfactory equipment operation. Technicians operate various meters such as: multimeters, megohmmeters, signal generators, function generators, impedance bridges, oscilloscopes and power meters.
Technicians perform cable testing for continuity and insulation resistance of installed cables and operate shipboard electronic systems to support testing. Technicians troubleshoot, repair, adjust and operate complex electronic systems and resolve technical problems with engineering and supervision.

Technicians are encouraged to improve how we prepare and execute testing through our continuous improvement program.

Electronics Technicians complete and maintain training to perform the duties of “Safety Technician”, which requires making systems and components safe for trade work utilizing Lockout Tags Plus procedures. Electronics Technicians may perform work on energized equipment if required and must understand and comply with Electric Boat Safety Manual and technical manual operating requirements.

Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain radiological dosimetry and may be required to perform work within radiologically controlled areas. Candidates must obtain and maintain a security clearance. After qualified and cleared, candidates may support test executions during sea trials to operate, troubleshoot, and repair if necessary, various electronic systems.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of specialized training in the electronics field beyond high school: i.e.: Electronics certification courses, Vocational courses, or Technical Colleges is required.
  • Two (2) years experience in the electronics field or related experience is required.

Preferred:

  • Military or shipboard electronics experience is preferred, additional preference given to related U.S. Navy experience.
  • Experience with shipboard tagout system or Navy tagout system is preferred.

Skills:

Candidates must be able to:

  • Understand and explain basic electrical/electronic theory, as well as interpret electrical drawings, blueprints and diagrams.
  • Understand and be able to discuss and demonstrate basic troubleshooting techniques, and effective use of electronics test equipment.
  • Perform cable testing for continuity and insulation resistance of shipboard cabling.
