Chief of Staff, School of Global Public Health

Position Summary:

The Chief of Staff (COS) will report to the Interim Dean and serve as principal aide and logistics manager for the School of Global Public Health (GPH) at New York University (NYU). This role is a key member of the GPH Dean’s cabinet and is responsible for coordinating key activities and functions of the office, including planning and implementing Dean’s office activities (e.g., state of the school, community service day, strategic plan implementation) and meetings of high-level groups (e.g., Dean's Cabinet, Dean's Policy Group, and Dean’s Advisory Council).

This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for the Office of the Dean with internal and external constituents, resolve issues as appropriate, and provide strategic and tactical guidance and direction for office activities. The COS supports the Interim Dean’s strategic initiatives through effective project management and the daily operations of the office of the Dean.
The role monitors linkages with senior administrative officers and departments to ensure responsiveness. Serving as senior staff support to the Interim Dean, this individual will address high-level issues, policies, and situations involving a cross-section of University units, including but not limited to finance, information technology, facilities, HR, UDAR, etc.
The COS will provide leadership and direction for the Dean’s strategic planning initiatives, financial planning, annual budget meeting preparation and scheduling, project management, and select program development activities. The COS will represent the Dean at select internal and external meetings with faculty, staff, students, alumni, senior university administrators, and government and community leaders.
The COS is also responsible for managing day-to-day operations within the Office of the Dean, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness, and optimizing available resources. They will be responsible for handling confidential issues, policy violations, and situations across University units.

The COS will supervise the Department administrator, administrative aide, and other staff as necessary. This is a fixed-term appointment.

Qualifications:

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education: Master's Degree

Required Experience:

7+ years progressively responsible experience in academic administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and superior attention to detail.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidences are essential. Ability to develop, implement and interpret policies and procedures. Prior experience with operational and staff supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, networking, leadership, project management, organization, and multitasking skills, along with strong research, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels The incumbent must be able to appropriately respond to highly sensitive and confidential situations in person, (via telephone or via e-mail) on behalf of the Dean.
The successful candidate will be able to work in a team environment and collaborate with others on deadline-driven assignments Strong ability to translate priorities into field decisions. Excellent problem-solving skills Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work in a rapidly changing environment requiring flexibility. Willingness to take responsibility and the capacity to function well with minimal oversight. Intelligence, flexibility, and creativity required Technologically adept.

Appropriate proficiency with purchasing and procurement processes, Internet tools like email and search functions, project management tools, communications software, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Experience working across an international platform. Experience supporting executive level or a C-Suite equivalent office.

Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $167,471.00 to USD $207,471.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
