About the Position

The Director of Golf will lead the golf operations team, manage member and guest relations, and collaborate with other department managers to enhance our reputation as a first-class facility in Virginia.

Responsibilities:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Develops a positive culture and environment with both the membership and professional team
• Teaches the staff the importance of being enthusiastic when hosting club members and guests as well as all McConnell Golf members and guests on a daily basis
• Promotes pure golf for the true golfer as an ambassador of the club and McConnell Golf, to the membership, golf staff and community.
• Provides leadership and communicates the club’s vision to the golf operation team and members alike, supporting the club’s philosophy and mission with a big emphasis on adding programs for all levels of golfers.
• Utilizes merchandise background to maximize revenue while maintaining a fiscally responsible level of merchandise throughout the golf season
• Executes a training and lesson program to better develop teaching and club fitting abilities at the club.
• Organizes and leads in team meetings to prepare for major club events
• Supervises promotional materials of tournaments, events and programs, and provide knowledge to all team members about up-coming events
• Promotes pure golf for the true golfer as an Ambassador of the club and McConnell Golf, which also includes to play a certain number of rounds with the membership and travel to other McConnell Golf properties
• Enforces all rules and regulations governing golf course usage
• Maintains close working relationship with all department managers
• Assists in the publications of Weekly Happenings newsletters, informational and promotional materials to effectively communicate with the membership on a regular basis
• Oversees and manages all social media outlets with the McConnell Golf Marketing team ensuring timely posting of tournaments, merchandise sales, upcoming events and pictures on club’s website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
• Develops systems to measure and monitor effectiveness of team members, retail management programs, proper inventory control practices, service levels, and golf related events.
• Develops and executes the buying plan in a fiscally responsible manner upon the approval of the Vice President of Golf Operations
• Manages and monitors ongoing training programs

Qualifications:

• Class A member of the PGA of America and in good standing
• Multiple year tenure at one facility with emphasis on customer service, hospitality and creating a team environment for both members and staff
• 5 or more years’ experience as a Head Professional or Director of Golf (preferred)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
• Proven record of consistent delivery of exceptional member services, team training and professional development
• Ability to develop and promote innovative tournaments and programs to build a fun member environment to enhance the member experience
