Job Description

Director of Quality in Food Manufacturing Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Management: Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures to maintain compliance with USDA regulations, food safety standards, and industry best practices.
  2. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of quality assurance professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of performance and accountability.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of changes in USDA regulations and industry trends, ensuring that our manufacturing processes and products remain in full compliance.
  4. Quality Control: Establish and maintain robust quality control systems, including inspection protocols, product testing procedures, and quality metrics to identify and address any deviations or non-conformities.
  5. Supplier Management: Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to evaluate and qualify suppliers, ensuring that raw materials and ingredients meet our quality standards and specifications.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, streamline processes, and optimize operational efficiency throughout the production lifecycle.
  7. Audits and Inspections: Coordinate internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications, working closely with regulatory agencies, auditors, and certification bodies to maintain compliance and achieve industry certifications.
  8. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including production, R&D, engineering, and logistics, to address quality-related issues, resolve challenges, and support new product development initiatives.
  9. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting systems to track quality metrics, monitor trends, and communicate performance insights to senior management.

The Successful Applicant

Director of quality in food manufacturing qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in quality assurance, preferably in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of USDA regulations, HACCP principles, FSMA requirements, and food safety standards.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision.
  • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or relevant professional certifications preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, quality management software, and data analysis tools is a plus.
