Position: Certified Medical Assistant
Location: Whippany, NJ 07981

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Pay Rate: $21/hour

Job Description:

A healthcare facility is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support daily clinical and administrative operations. The ideal candidate will assist physicians, perform venipuncture and EKGs, manage patient flow, and maintain medical records while ensuring a safe and efficient environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care & Clinical Support:

  • Perform venipuncture and electrocardiograms (EKGs) as required.
  • Assist patients with walking, transferring, and dressing when necessary.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and prepare them for examinations.
  • Collect and process specimens, conduct point-of-care testing.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and treatments.
  • Take and record vital signs, relay physician instructions to patients and families.

Administrative Duties:

  • Answer patient calls and address inquiries with accurate information.
  • Manage and maintain patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, referral details, and other documentation.
  • Complete and process forms, requisitions, and prescription refills.
  • Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems for data entry and updates.
  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and verify insurance information.
  • Assist with pre-certifications for procedures as needed.

Medical Supply & Equipment Management:

  • Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies.
  • Set up examination rooms and sterilized instruments.
  • Maintain logs for medication refrigeration, crash carts, and sterilization.
  • Monitor and properly dispose of expired medications and supplies.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to infection control policies and wear PPE as required.
  • Comply with regulations regarding bloodborne pathogens, radiation exposure, and hazardous substances.
  • Maintain a secure and healthy work environment following healthcare standards.

General Duties:

  • Assist in chart management, filing test results, and home care forms.
  • Coordinate with the Surgical Coordinator for pre-admission documentation.
  • Perform phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Adjust and confirm patient schedules as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills, especially for multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA guidelines.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) or billing systems is preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited institution.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association – Required).
