Position Summary:

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time Gas Utility Construction and Service Technician Instructor on our Beaver Dam Campus for June 2025. The Gas Utility, Construction, and Service Technician program is housed in the Energy Education Center that was built in partnership with multiple energy employers.
The external training grounds, in addition to digging, boring, and fusing equipment, maintains a training neighborhood of small-scale houses and related equipment. This position is responsible for the multiple modality delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning and providing ongoing development of curriculum, assessment, and learning strategies to meet workforce needs.

In addition, will provide regular student support and contact, or refer to the appropriate department, to meet the learner’s classroom and career goals.

The successful candidate will have an associate degree in a related field (or willing to obtain an Associate Degree from an accredited program. Progress toward an Associate Degree will be measured through the successful completion of a minimum of six (6) credits of coursework annually, beginning with the second year of employment.) and two years (4,000 hours) of paid work experience related to the program(s) being taught, including one year (2,000 hours) of related paid work experience that has been acquired within the past five years.

In lieu of this one year of recent experience, two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the past five years may be considered. (Two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution.).

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and facilitate learning in the assigned courses according to the College’s core values. Establish a professional and safe learning environment. Set the classroom tone by modeling appropriate workplace skills and behavior. Maintain a positive climate for learning by performing classroom management and being aware of, monitoring, and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Meet student learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and assessments.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, records, and documentation as required by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Submit grades within the expected timeframe.
  • Provide timely verbal and written feedback to the students to ensure continued growth and development.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of curriculum.
  • Assist with student recruitment and proactively promote the College programs and services offered.
  • Promote retention and student success through the utilization of referrals to College services and resources.
  • Engage in internal and external College meetings and activities.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with K-12, Department of Corrections (DOC), community, and industry partners beyond the classroom.
  • Actively maintain proficient knowledge and skills in emerging trends and current occupational practices. Complete annual professional development activities in areas of Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS) competencies. Complete all required training.
  • Assist with mentoring faculty.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies for the classroom and labs, as necessary to support the assigned program area and future trends in industry. Work with the supervisor to identify alternative funding sources, as needed.
  • Perform other duties, trainings and service to the College as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications (in addition to those listed above in the summary):

  • Experience in all of the following job duties:

o Safe operation of heavy construction equipment related to the gas utility industry.

o Experience in all processes of joining steel and plastic gas pipelines.

o Knowledge of emergency response training related to the natural gas industry.

o Knowledge of gas appliance relight and safety inspections.

o Experience with gas measurement, including gas metering and gas regulators.

o Experience with underground pipe locating equipment, installation of gas mains and services, the operation and maintenance of the gas pipeline system.

o Install, maintain, and operate natural gas distribution systems used to supply natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

o Install, maintain, and operate propane systems used to supply propane gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

o Install and repair natural and propane gas appliances used by residential and commercial customers.

o Various welding processes related to the gas industry.
  • Working knowledge of all of the following:

o Construction, maintenance, and operation of gas transmission and distribution systems, electrical circuits, protective piping devices, regulatory requirements, troubleshooting theory and practice, venting, ANSI-Z223.1 code, and comparable support activities.

o Qualified in PE fusion.
  • Upon hire, must maintain and/or obtain Higher Learning Commission, Faculty Quality Assurance System, and other agency requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Desired Qualifications:
  • OSHA 30 Cardholder.
  • Operator Qualifications (OQ) Evaluator.

Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Work Environment:
  • Student learning locations may present the following hazards including, but not limited to, noise, ergonomic hazards, and extreme temperatures.
  • Occupational health and safety hazards may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes, respiratory protection, eye and face protection, body protection, hand protection, and hearing protection.
Other Position Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
  • This position may require travel to MPTC (Moraine Park Technical College) campus locations other than the base location, client/contract work sites, and/or Department of Corrections (DOC) institutions.
Hiring Range: $68,444 - $85,556
Starting: June 2025
