System Administrator Associate II

Overview:

The System Administrator Associate II is responsible for maintaining and supporting the organization’s IT infrastructure, with a focus on cloud services. This role involves assisting with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems, ensuring that servers, networks, and systems operate efficiently and securely.

The System Administrator Associate II works closely with senior administrators and other IT teams to maintain system performance and resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities:

  1. System Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, networks, and workstations.
  • Support the deployment and management of operating systems, applications, and security tools.
  • Maintain and support virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure network infrastructure connectivity and security.
  • Assist in planning, testing, and implementing system upgrades or new deployments.
  • Handle hardware setup, including the occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. for equipment maintenance.
  1. System Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Support
  • Monitor and manage system performance, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide user support by diagnosing and resolving hardware/software problems.
  • Monitor system logs and performance reports, detecting potential issues and implementing corrective measures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support as needed.
  1. Security, Cloud, and Automation
  • Ensure system security by implementing regular software updates, patches, and backups.
  • Work with cloud services (Google & Oracle Cloud) to manage cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring systems can be restored in case of failure.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) for cloud infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Version control experience (e.g., Git) to maintain infrastructure and configuration code.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in system administration or IT support roles.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux, and/or Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with Cloud services and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Proficient with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Experience with monitoring tools, backup solutions, and server management.
Core Competencies
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications:
  • CompTIA A+
  • Linux Distribution certifications (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu)
  • Containerization certifications (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Technical Experience:
  • Experience with cloud technologies and services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Version Control:
  • Proficient in version control tools, particularly Git.
