Lutheran Haven is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our Rehabilitation team. In this role, one can expect to plan, organize, develop, and direct Occupational Therapy services for Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility residents in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards.
As Occupational Therapist, you will be expected to ensure the highest degree of Resident care at all times under the guidance of the Program Director.
Job Duties:
- Actively supports Lutheran Haven’s Mission and Ministry.
- Demonstrates a willingness to be an effective team member by fostering positive relationships with teams and residents.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the occupational therapy program and activities in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern nursing home facilities.
- Review request for occupational therapy and Physician’s orders.
- Interview Resident to determine type of treatment and schedule therapy.
- Evaluate type of therapy most appropriate for case.
- Brief resident of procedures involved in occupational therapy program and prepare necessary equipment.
- Assist Residents with ambulatory training as necessary.
- Meet with medical, nursing and other relevant departments to plan therapy services.
- Develop and maintain occupational therapy standards.
- Assist in standardizing the methods in which occupational therapy will be accomplished.
- Interpret occupational therapy policies and procedures staff, family members, residents etc. as necessary.
- Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of resident care plans, resident assessments etc. as necessary.
- Assist in developing and implementing a continuous quality assurance program to improve on processes or correct identified deficiencies.
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the occupational therapy program.
- Maintain treatment records, resident files and progress notes as required.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Program Director as required regarding the occupational therapy program.
- Maintain adequate liaison with residents and family members.
- Performs administrative responsibilities such as charting, completing medical forms, evaluations, reports etc. as required.
- Ensure that Therapy notes are informative and descriptive of the care provided and clearly show the resident’s response to the care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Works in therapy gym or resident rooms. Position requires sitting, standing, squatting and walking for extended periods of time.
- Subject to frequent interruptions, as well as emotional client, family member and other staff member situations.
- Must be constantly alert for resident safety.
- Mental effort may be stressful at times due to deadlines and assignments from several different departmental areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered with National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Minimum of one year experience.
- Good organizational skills requiring minimal guidance in completion of assigned tasks is required.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and ability to function on a professional level with residents, family members, staff and other outside professionals
