Firmware Engineer, UEFI BIOS - Technical Lead
This full-time position is on-site in South Burlington, VT or Cary, North Carolina.
We are seeking a self-motivated Lead Firmware Engineer to drive global UEFI enablement, elevate firmware standards, and lead next-generation UEFI development for our industrial computing platforms. You will collaborate with internal teams, industry partners, and vendors to ensure our firmware meets functional, non-functional, and user experience standards across our product lines.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Ensuring our team delivers high-quality firmware that promotes positive customer experiences, well-conceived functionality, and rugged reliability!
- Defining and managing Cross-Product UEFI firmware specifications to enable consistent, differentiated product capabilities across our portfolio.
- Developing and maintaining a common core firmware platform adaptable across multiple industrial computing products.
- Providing training and mentorship to internal and customer-facing technical teams.
- Acting as the UEFI-BIOS subject matter expert, supporting customers with system-level firmware expertise.
- Owning and managing standardized UEFI BIOS build, revision control, and release processes.
- Delivering Remote Management capabilities via vPro, BMC SOCs, or other pre-boot defined technologies.
- Reviewing new product concepts and requirements, providing technical feedback on firmware impact, rough sizing, and solutions.
- Identifying and addressing cross-platform user experience issues, building standardized solutions through documentation and reusable code assets.
- Supporting product lifecycle and customer requirements for software and firmware-related issues.
- Tracking, assessing, and facilitating resolutions for firmware-related bugs, performance issues, and optimizations.
- Leading debugging, optimization, and feature development across multiple hardware platforms.
- Building proof-of-concept firmware solutions for evaluation and thought leadership.
- Ensuring security, reliability, and usability best practices are embedded in firmware design.
- Driving continuous improvement and alignment with industry standards.

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of firmware development experience, preferably in the industrial PC industry.
- Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, and product testing.
- Expertise in firmware debugging using JTAG-based debuggers and logic analyzers.
- Strong background in software design with C and Assembly.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development workflows.
- Strong understanding of x86 PC and ARM hardware architectures.
- Basic Knowledge of pre-boot architectures and related technologies, including:
- UEFI, BIOS, SMM, SMBUS, I2C, PCIe, PXE, SATA, USB, ACPI, CXL, TPM, and SMBIOS, NVRAM, BMC.
- Extensive experience with microcontroller architectures.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
- Recognized technical thought leadership in UEFI/BIOS firmware standards and cross-platform interoperability (ACPI, USB, PCIe).
- Hands-on experience developing within and enabling platforms using:
- TianoCore EDKII, AMI Aptio, or Insyde H2O.
- Expertise in x86 and ARM-based architectures.
- Experience with Trusted Computing & Security Technologies, including:
- TPM, Secure Boot, TXT, and Root of Trust.
- Knowledge of BMC software stacks.
- Experience with industrial or embedded computing platforms.
- Familiarity with firmware security, power management, and performance optimization.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience working with ODMs, IBVs, silicon vendors, and solution integrators.

Benefits
