Chief Strategy and Development Officer
Overview:
The Chief Strategy and Development Officer (CSDO) at LifeLong Medical Care will play a critical role in shaping the organization’s short and long-term growth strategy while ensuring alignment with LifeLong’s mission to provide high-quality health, dental, and social services to underserved people of all ages.Reporting to the CEO, the CSDO will lead business development initiatives, oversee the organization’s strategic planning, grants and donor development, the government and community relations strategy, and external communications efforts.
- Strategic Planning: Partner with the CEO to support Strategic Plan priorities, while reviewing progress metrics with Board Planning Committee and Board of Directors.
- Business Development: Lead efforts to identify and develop new programs and opportunities that align with LifeLong’s mission and community needs.
- Planning, Grants and Donor Development: Prioritize funder relationships with local, state and federal agencies, along with private philanthropy and individual donors.
- Government and Community Relations: Cultivate strong relationships with elected officials and public sector leaders to ensure a strong position for LifeLong Medical for legislative advocacy, funding, and contracting opportunities.
- External Communications and Marketing: Develop branding and marketing strategies that increase LifeLong’s visibility to reach the community in need of services.
This is a full time, exempt, benefit eligible, on-site position in Berkeley.

Benefits

Responsibilities:
The Chief Strategy and Development Officer helps to ensure LifeLong Medical Care continues to grow sustainably, while driving alignment with key partners and securing the financial and organizational resources needed for long-term success. This role is vital for optimizing LifeLong’s external relationships with government entities, associations, and private healthcare organizations, ensuring that services are mutually beneficial and aligned with community health priorities and LifeLong’s mission.
Strategic Planning:
- Lead LifeLong’s Strategic Planning process with the CEO and the Board of Directors and ensure monitoring and progress reports. This includes support of on-going strategy development in goal areas that will lead us to achieve our 3–5-year Strategic Plan
- Supports implementation of the organization's strategy internally and externally so that all employees, partners, suppliers, and contractors understand the organization-wide strategic plan and how it carries out the organization's overall goals.
- Establishes and reviews key strategic priorities and translates them into a comprehensive strategic plan.
- Partners with CEO to monitor the execution of the strategic plan, drives key initiatives from inception, and ensures that departmental strategic planning projects are aligned with LifeLong's organizational priorities.
Business Development:
- Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to explore and evaluate opportunities for acquiring new businesses, forming joint ventures, or considering mergers that align with LifeLong’s mission and maximize community impact.
- Identify and assess new business avenues, partnering closely with finance teams to conduct comprehensive analyses that evaluate both financial outcomes and community impact.
- Leverage innovative programs and initiatives to strengthen LifeLong’s reputation as a leader in healthcare and the FQHC space.
- Develop and implement business growth strategies aimed at increasing LifeLong’s revenue streams, ensuring sustainable long-term success while maintaining the organization’s commitment to serving underserved populations.
Planning, Grants, and Donor Development:
- Oversee the Planning and Grants Department and the Development Department including identifying and securing public and private sector grants and contracts, individual donations, and corporate sponsorships,
- Supervise the Senior Director of Strategy and Planning, Director of Grants Administration and the Director of Development, and ensure alignment with LifeLong’s mission and long-term growth plans.
- Build and manage partnerships with corporate and private sponsors to support LifeLong’s philanthropic and fundraising initiatives.
- Cultivate relationships with private donors, foundations, corporations, and industry associations to maximize funding opportunities and expand the organization’s donor base.
- Build a strong base of grassroot outreach to expand awareness of LifeLong’s services throughout the service area and to influence public policy.
- Serve as the liaison between LifeLong and government entities at local, state, and federal levels.
- Advocate for LifeLong’s priorities in policy discussions, legislative processes, and regulatory changes.
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, industry associations, and key stakeholders to influence policy decisions that support LifeLong’s mission.
- Lead efforts to strengthen relationships with key partners, stakeholders, and local organizations, fostering collaboration to advance community health initiatives.
- Oversee community engagement programs to ensure they meet community needs and align with LifeLong’s priorities and goals.
- Engage and lead the Patient’s Voices Collaborative to incorporate patient feedback into organizational decision-making.
- Develop and implement plans to increase corporate and community contributions, sponsorships, and in-kind donations that support LifeLong’s programs and services.
- Develop and implement marketing and social media strategies to elevate LifeLong’s profile as a leader in healthcare and the FQHC space, showcasing innovation and leadership.
- Lead efforts to promote LifeLong’s mission, services, and achievements to external audiences, reinforcing the organization’s reputation and impact.
- Strengthen LifeLong’s brand presence across digital, print, and media channels, ensuring consistent and effective communication.
- Create and execute marketing strategies that enhance LifeLong’s visibility and reputation within the healthcare industry and local communities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, with a Master’s Degree in Public Healthcare or Business Administration preferred.
- Senior-level management experience with a minimum of 15 years in supervisory roles.
- Proven success in scaling complex organizations, leading cross-functional teams, and fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Expertise in strategic planning, creating efficiencies, and driving problem-solving for organizational growth.
- Strong background in grant writing, donor development, government contracting, and building external partnerships.
- Effective communicator with experience in managing change, influencing diverse stakeholders, and fostering a mission-driven team environment.
- Commitment to primary care services for underserved communities, with sensitivity to diverse populations and demonstrated servant leadership.
