Mental Health Therapist - Unlicensed

Purpose of Position:
Provides therapy services to clients with both developmental disabilities and mental health concerns under the clinical supervision of Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Works in close association with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that the goals and objectives of each client are met.Maintains quality of services and ensures services are provided in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Actively participates in clinical supervision provided by a LCSW. This position is intended for individuals pursuing Social Work licensure.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the LCSW:
- Evaluates clients' physical and/or mental condition based on review of client information under direction and guidance from LCSW. Collects information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests.
- Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Counsels clients directly to help them develop insight into themselves and their relationships. Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Counsels clients and their families, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Counsels caregivers and family members to assist in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the client with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Modifies treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in the clients' status with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Monitors the clients' use of medications.
- Provides crisis intervention expertise as necessary and with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Prepares clients for transition out of therapy.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives with direction and guidance from LCSW.
- Maintains detailed notes and documentation of supervision sessions.
- Proactively requests direction and guidance from LCSW with identified gaps in knowledge and skill.
- Schedules supervision sessions with LCSW as required by state rule and regulation, in accordance with licensing guidelines.
Collaborates with clients’ teams and other professionals:
- Refers clients, caregivers, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
- Coordinates and participates in care coordination meetings with multidisciplinary team.
- Works with the program staff regarding client scheduling, records maintenance and information management.
- Collaborates with other team members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
- Notifies multidisciplinary team of client psychosocial issues affecting treatment.
Administrative and compliance responsibilities:
- Participates in continuous quality improvement programs.
- Administers quality care in a considerate, respectful manner.
- Increases knowledge on all current developments and trends as it relates to mental health therapy.
- Ensures services are conducted in compliance with all rules and regulations.
- Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports, including initial psychosocial assessments and ongoing visit notes.
- Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
- Acts as a client advocate.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:
- Solid knowledge of the developmental disabilities system in Colorado.
- Knowledge of services and supports for the target population, including current issues, trends, and community resources.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks/goals for self and others.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups at all professional levels.
- Effective and creative negotiator and problem solver.
- Ability to work effectively with various technology including word processing software, internet based databases, etc.
- This position requires regular use of a personal mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet Imagine! driving requirements.
Training/Education:
- Master’s degree in social work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited college or university.
Experience:
- At least three years experience working in the field of developmental disabilities required.
- Experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other therapies which are effective in supporting individuals with dual diagnosis preferred
- Effective with shifting roles, responsibilities, and expectations in a changing environment.
- Work is performed in a typical office environment.
- Therapy is provided both in-person and via telehealth.
