Overview:

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the areas of aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities. TFOME management is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees.

We specialize in providing unique products and services to NASA Glenn. We are currently seeking an Engineering Technician IV - Materials and Structural Development Testing to conduct experiments in the mechanical testing, fatigue, and fracture laboratories through the use of fatigue machines, universal tensile machines and sophisticated controlled mechanical test equipment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and conduct experiments in the advanced metallics, ceramics, tribology and surface science, and environmental durability testing laboratories which develop high temperature materials such as metals, powders, ceramics, coatings and lubricants primarily used in aerospace power and propulsion systems.
  2. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability of test results; selects from several possible design and testing layouts; calculates design data; and prepares set ups.
  3. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate materials performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using applicable machines or instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.
  4. Maintain and perform preventative maintenance on testing equipment, including electro-mechanical devices and hydraulic / pneumatic systems.

Qualifications:

  1. Associate of Engineering Technology degree with 2 years of materials testing experience, or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a related field of technical expertise.
  2. Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of materials testing equipment.
  3. Proficient use of computers utilizing Microsoft office suite software including Word, Excel. Solid Works is a plus.
  4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
  5. Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of work flow.
  6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
