We are currently looking for a new medical assistant to join the team at one of our Florida practices, Academic Alliance in Dermatology (www.academicallderm.com). Academic Alliance in Dermatology, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology, has 23 locations throughout Southwest & Central Florida.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a professional, bright, and enthusiastic Medical Assistant with excellent people and communication skills. You will play a vital role not only in the efficient operation of our practice but will also help to shape patient experience through your friendly, professional, and attentive interaction with each patient.

Your role will entail of both front office and back office responsibilities including hands on patient care, as well as, various administrative tasks.

Primary Duties
  • Responsible for assisting the provider with: patient care including taking vital signs, obtaining history and chief complaint, taking medical histories, performing examinations, and developing a treatment plan within their scope of practice for patients and treatment administration as directed by their supervising provider
  • Provides chair-side provider(s) assistance as needed and at times may administer assistance and or support in delivering select procedures and treatments.
  • Prepares exam rooms, escorts patients to room, and prepares patient for the provider(s).
  • Assists in patient education regarding medications, post-treatment plans or a retail skincare purchase.
  • Assist in procedures, such as suture removal and dressing changes
  • Responsible for providing front office support.
  • Assist with opening and closing of the office
  • Greet and Check-In/Check-Out patients
  • Prepare patient charts and verify insurance coverage
  • Verify patient information and ensure the accuracy of the information entered into the practice management system
Secondary Duties
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments
  • Collect copays and other patient balances
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data
  • Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing, including insurance and PCP information
  • Reconcile daily charges and cash, checks, and bankcard payments.
  • Must be knowledgeable of office financial policies and fees
  • When needed, assist the medical assistant team with obtaining prior authorization for procedures and/or medications
  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Monitors work flow and ensures adherences to policies and procedures; recommends and/or implements changes as necessary to maintain an efficient clinic and positive work environment.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of regulations, standards, policies, and practices of all aspects of your work area.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with HIPPA standards and OSHA Standard Precautions
  • Clean and Straighten front office and waiting room

Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years medical assisting experience (preferred)
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant OR completion of a bachelor’s degree program in a pre-med or pre-physician’s assistant track (preferred)
  • Knowledgeable of dermatological diseases and medicines OR the willingness and capacity to study and quickly learn
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and able to work well within a team
  • Professionalism and strong customer service skills is a must
  • Able to communicate with doctor clearly and concisely
  • Able to communicate with patients and co-workers in a professional and friendly manner
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds, stand for prolonged periods (i.e. an hour at a time) and use a step stool
