POSITION TITLE: Special Programs Coordinator - Adult Education (Part-time) Education and Career Advisor (part-time; benefitted)DEPARTMENT: Economic and Business Development/Adult Education
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, with required travel to Bristol's Taunton location
POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, part time, grant funded, 20 hours per week, unit position with benefits. This position is funded for 52 weeks per year. This position is subject to grant budget appropriations.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Thursday 3:30 pm - 8:30 pmREPORTS TO: Associate Director, Adult Education
SALARY: $33.95 per hour
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Education and Career Advisor assists students to develop, monitor, fulfill an individual Education and Career Plan that aligns with a student's interests, goals, and abilities with a career, and outlines the steps needed to prepare for that career.
The Advisor oversees intake, assessment, and support services for adults entering the Adult Education program, monitors student progress, attendance, retention, follow-up outcomes, and provides referral services as needed. The Education and Career Advisor; oversees the entering of student data into the Department of Education's data system; and attends meetings related to upgrades of the program.
The current need is for the education and Career Advisor to support English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students at the Fall River campus and Taunton center in person during the evening hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop outreach and recruitment strategies to ensure community access to the program
- Conduct information and intake sessions with prospective students
- Administer and evaluate placement tests and assist in appropriate academic placement
- Orient new students to the program's policies and activities
- Assist students in understanding labor market information and developing individualized Education and Career Plans
- Assist students to identify, clarify, monitor, and achieve educational and career goals through individual and group advising sessions
- Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure student goals inform instruction
- Assist students with transition to concurrent and/or next steps in their education and career training experience
- Maintain confidential student files including a record of advising notes and activities
- Follow-up every quarter with current and former students to monitor progress towards goals
- Refer students to community resources as needed to enhance academic supports and address barriers to attendance
- Build and maintain effective community collaborations to support student retention and progress
- Oversee entry of intake, assessment, goals, and attendance data into the LACES system
- Serve as the program's ADA Coordinator
- Attend staff and community planning meetings
- Comply with deadlines
- Serve on the Program Development Team and participate in program assessment and improvement
- Attend professional development activities at the level assigned each year

- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
- Experience in counseling, preferably with non-traditional adult learners
- Experience working with non-native English speakers
- Ability to speak a second language
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to rearrange priorities as needed
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Experience with MS Word & Excel and email applications
- Strong interest in helping adults realize their educational and career goals
