We’re looking for a Systems Administrator (aka The IT Backbone) to oversee and support the organization’s server environments, ensure system reliability, and maintain network resources.
As a Systems Administrator at our client, you’ll collaborate with IT teams, support users, and manage core infrastructure to guarantee maximum uptime and productivity. Your work will be instrumental in maintaining secure, high-performance systems that allow everyone to work efficiently and without interruptions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and Maintain Server Infrastructure:
- Oversee server configurations, performance, and security on both Windows and Linux environments. You’ll handle daily maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting to keep servers running smoothly.
- Ensure System Security and Compliance:
- Implement and manage security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus, patch management, and access controls. You’ll monitor system security to prevent unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Support Virtualization and Cloud Services:
- Manage virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud-based services (e.g., AWS, Azure) to optimize resource utilization and scalability. You’ll assist with deployments and migrations as needed.
- Perform Backup and Disaster Recovery Operations:
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures to protect data integrity and ensure business continuity. You’ll run regular tests to confirm disaster recovery readiness.
- Provide Technical Support for End-Users and Systems:
- Act as a resource for technical issues escalated from the helpdesk, providing expert support to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues efficiently.
- Document System Configurations and Procedures:
- Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, operational processes, and troubleshooting guides. You’ll ensure accurate records for team reference and future planning.
- Monitor System Performance and Optimize Resources:
- Use monitoring tools to track system performance, uptime, and usage. You’ll identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring optimal resource allocation and efficiency.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Systems Administration and Server Management: Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux servers, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Security Protocols and Compliance: Strong understanding of system security best practices, firewall management, antivirus, and access controls.
- Virtualization and Cloud Services Knowledge: Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (AWS, Azure) for efficient resource management.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Familiarity with backup tools and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data protection and continuity.
- Problem Solving and Technical Support: Excellent troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving system issues quickly and effectively.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience in systems administration may be considered.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional) are advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure, with a proven track record of maintaining and optimizing server environments.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds) for tracking system health and performance.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automating system tasks is beneficial.
