Job Description:
Join UChicago Medicine as a Nursing Support Assistant to serve on our 10E Oncology/Stem-Cell Unit!
Performs activities which support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and the healthcare team. Provides constant observation and documentation of activity of assigned patient. Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area.
Essential Job Functions- Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of duties
- Assists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids
- Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.
- Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
- Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
- Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.
- Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
- Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
- Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.
- CPR/BLS Certification
- Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form
- Ability to work in partnership with management and staff
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
- Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects and/or patients may be required
- Vision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
