Part-Time Delivery Nurse

Shift: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9:00am-5:00pm, pick up shifts as available/needed

Community Medical Services (CMS) is hiring a Delivery Nurse. Under the supervision of the Regional Nursing Manager, the Delivery Nurse is responsible for preparing medication doses and delivering them to DRC institutions participating in the MAT Program via their personal vehicle.
The Nurse will be required to work inside the Department of Corrections, administering medication to clients; assisting medical providers; conducting required testing; maintaining medication inventory and auditing records; and providing support to the overall operations of the clinic.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer and/or prepare medications as ordered/prescribed by a CMS medical provider.
  • Prepare take-home medication to deliver to external DRC institutions.
  • Obtains, enters, and follows all medical provider orders.
  • Coordinate care with DRC medical/nursing staff and CMS teams to facilitate proper deliveries and report diversion attempts.
  • Monitor behavioral patterns, medical symptoms, and physical symptoms related to dosage, as well as other symptoms related to drug use (both licit and illicit) and mental health concerns.
  • Obtain vital signs, blood specimens, and urine samples as necessary.
  • Process point-of-care urine drug screens per company policy as necessary.
  • Monitor medication administration closely to prevent diversion.
  • Report diversion to proper internal authorities.
  • Maintain accurate client records in company’s EHR system.
  • Documents medication errors and responds to adverse medical reactions per company and DRC company policy.
  • Arranges temporary incoming and outgoing courtesy dosing clients.
  • Orders necessary dosing room and nursing-related supplies for DRC sites as necessary.
  • Orders, receives, and inventories necessary medications to complete dosing or deliveries.
  • Maintains accurate medication inventory records.
  • Adheres to all federal, state, local, and accrediting body regulations.
  • Administers CPR, if necessary
  • Participates in continuing education and/or other job-related training.
  • Adheres to and enforces company policies and procedures.
SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively between all organizational levels and with outside providers.
  • Basic to intermediate computer knowledge, including the ability to navigate in electronic health records.
  • General knowledge and aptitude for working independently with adults of mixed ethnic groups.
  • Culturally competent and sensitive to client and employee needs.
  • Demonstrated ability in medication administration accuracy and ability to maintain accurate client records.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to ensure compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2.

Qualifications:

Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licensed LPN or RN in state(s) of employment
  • CPR (active)
  • Knowledge of signs of intoxication and opioid withdrawal symptoms required
  • Experience in the field of substance use disordered preferred but not required
  • Motor Vehicle Valid state-issued driver’s license and MVR clearance is required; a 39-month MVR is required for any applicant at the time of the interview
Tools and Equipment
  • Frequent use of a telephone, computer, printer, fax machine and copier
  • Frequent use of the internet and various web browser software, and Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Owns a personal vehicle for travel between Department of Corrections sites daily.
Physical Working Conditions and Office Setting Description
  • Ability to travel to assigned CMS sites (only keep if applicable)
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching associated with an office environment
  • Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard
  • Frequent and prolonged typing and operation of computer, keyboard, and telephones
  • Some lifting may be required: Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in small clinics inside the Department of Corrections.
