What You Will do:
Are you seeking a dynamic role within the utility industry, which is currently experiencing significant changes? Do you possess the leadership qualities, strategic thinking, and commitment necessary to guide a team towards enhancing their skills and becoming industry leaders?This opportunity offers the chance to broaden your leadership horizon and play a crucial role in the energy transition. Reporting to the Director, Engineering & Planning as a leader in the Grid Modernization department, you will lead a diverse range of initiatives, including distribution infrastructure projects, electrification, innovation, and grid modernization efforts.
Below are the detailed responsibilities for this pivotal position.
- Lead the development and implementation of the company’s Asset Management Plan and DSP in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive asset condition assessments to inform maintenance and investment strategies.
- Develop and manage the capital budget for asset renewal and system improvement projects.
- Analyze asset performance data to prioritize investment and renewal strategies.
- Identify and address system vulnerabilities to enhance reliability and resiliency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align asset and system planning with long-term corporate goals.
- Manage the GIS department, ensuring effective integration of geospatial data into asset management and planning processes.
- Manage Asset Management and System Planning teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Provide leadership to Technical Services, including standards development and design reviews.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards and technical guidelines.
- Oversee engineering standards, with a focus on material standardization and supply chain risk mitigation.
- Oversee design reviews for capital and operating projects to ensure adherence to standards and regulatory compliance.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives within asset management, GIS, and system planning.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to assess department performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies on matters related to DSP and asset management. Collaborate with municipalities, contractors, and internal departments to align system planning with external developments.
- Prepare and present detailed reports, business cases, and technical findings to the senior leadership team.
- Ensure the safety of staff and contractors in all work environments.
- Perform field inspections as necessary to inform planning and asset management decisions.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (MBA, M.Eng or advanced certifications in Asset Management are assets).
- Eng. designation and a registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in good standing would be an asset.
- 7–10 years of experience in asset management, system planning, or technical services within the electrical utility sector including 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated expertise in utility distribution system design.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing asset management plans.
- Strong knowledge of GIS systems and their application in utility operations.
- Strong project management experience, including leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Familiarity with technical standards, design review processes, and regulatory frameworks.
- Leadership experience with a track record of managing diverse teams.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools, asset management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional communication and report-writing skills.
- Knowledge of Material and Construction specifications, Subdivision specifications manual, Economic Evaluation Policy, Conditions of Service, Electrical Safety Code, Canadian Standards Association, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation Book 7, Distribution System Code, Ontario Regulation 22/04
- Valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing.
- A proactive, strategic thinker with strong organizational skills.
- A self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative leadership style.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
