**Description:**
The Jim and Heather Gills YMCA is looking for a Lifeguard. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in and around the pool area and involves monitoring the pool for potential hazards, responding to emergencies, and providing life-saving interventions such as CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen administration according to certification requirements.Lifeguards are expected to remain alert, maintain a professional appearance, and be easily identifiable at all times.
**Essential Functions:**- Enforce pool rules and policies through proactive, preventative lifeguarding techniques, conducting routine checks of the pool and deck area throughout each shift.
- Provide focused and vigilant supervision of the pool, demonstrating a consistent scanning technique to cover all areas of the assigned zone.
- Respond to emergencies by executing appropriate rescue procedures, completing required documentation, and promptly communicating with the Aquatics Director or designated personnel as per the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Maintain cleanliness of the pool deck and surrounding areas, properly cleaning and storing all equipment after use.
- Foster positive interactions with participants, members, and guests to ensure an enjoyable and safe environment for all.
- Regularly monitor pool chemical levels and document readings accurately, reporting any issues to the Aquatics Director or designated staff immediately.
- Follow YMCA safety protocols, including adherence to health and welfare policies, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Participate in all required training sessions, staff meetings, and in-service drills to maintain up-to-date lifeguarding skills.
- Serve as a role model in promoting pool safety and proper conduct.
- Minimum age of 16
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent preferred
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
**Pay and Perks:** $14-$16 per hour, depending on experience/certifications. Free individual YMCA membership for employee and discount for family. Pre-employment drug screen and clear background check required. Flexible shifts are available, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
**Job Location:** Jim and Heather Gills YMCA: 3200 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712- Level 2 background clearance and 10-panel drug test required.
