Overview:

Under the supervision of the Manager, Materials and Warehouse, this position is responsible for managing a parts storeroom, including receiving, stocking, and distributing parts, tools, materials, and supplies for a transit maintenance facility that supports a fleet of approximately 250 buses.

Responsibilities:

  • Issue parts and supplies to mechanics for various maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assist in identifying and sourcing necessary parts and components for bus repairs, utilizing parts and supply catalogs.
  • Receive incoming shipments, verify packing slips, document deliveries, and enter receiving data into the automated inventory system.
  • Distribute materials to the appropriate departments efficiently.
  • Prepare and package materials for shipment, ensuring all documentation is accurate.
  • Performs regular physical inventories (cycle counts) and makes appropriate adjustments
  • Monitor inventory levels and provide recommendations for restocking or adjustments.
  • Ensure the prompt delivery and retrieval of materials and parts, including pickups from other locations as required.
  • Follow up on outstanding purchase orders, liaise with vendors, and expedite shipments when needed.
  • Operate a forklift for local supply pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations outlined in the agency’s safety program, reporting any accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES AND SKILL SETS:

  • Skill in accurately identifying, cataloging, and verifying parts to ensure inventory accuracy and prevent errors.
  • Strong communication abilities to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors effectively.
  • Proficiency in using enterprise resource planning (ERP) or enterprise asset management (EAM) software for inventory tracking and resource management.
  • Familiarity with parts, components, and systems used in the heavy-duty trucking industry, including their functions and applications.
  • Ability to control inventory, prioritize tasks, and maintain a structured and efficient parts storeroom.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. The candidate must be proficient in computer applications and familiar with office equipment. Experience or training in general office procedures within an automotive supply store environment is highly desirable.

If needed this position requires the ability to fulfill job responsibilities at the agency’s two Long Beach facilities, working flexible shifts to support a 24/7 operation. The role involves physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and lifting.

Candidates must be willing to learn to operate a forklift and pallet jack and must possess a valid California Driver’s License with an excellent driving record.

Salary Range: $51,476.03-$66,420.68 (Depending on Qualifications)

Compensation packages are determined based on a variety of factors specific to each candidate,including geographic location, skillset, the mix of relevant education,certifications,experience level, and performance. At Long Beach Transit, compensation decisions are made considering the unique requirements and circumstances of each position.
