The Manager of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for developing and executing unified and comprehensive communications strategies for Thales Defense & Security, Inc. and subsidiaries at our Clarksburg Campus in Maryland. The ideal candidate will be a marketing and strategic communications expert with substantive expertise and knowledge of defense program management and how defense programs are supported by the industrial base and can formulate marketing strategies accordingly.

The focus areas are tactical communication systems, electronic warfare capability, helmet mounted display technology and foreign military sales supporting like technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with functional leads to develop and execute internal and external marketing and communications activities and strategies.
  • Partner with business leads to plan, develop, and implement external communications/public relations campaigns, events, and activities.
  • Successful management of staff and execution of marketing and communications activities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to influence key customers and stakeholders at the right time to the right audience.
  • Development of relevant print, visual, web-based, media and social media content to reach target audiences; reviewing published content; monitoring, listening and responding to users in order to develop and expand outreach efforts.
  • Develop, integrate, and implement a broad range of customer/public relations activities. Communicate with contacts inside and outside of the Department of Defense, Legislative Branch and industrial base organization on matters of strategic/business growth importance to influence executive leadership on new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Execute proper protocol practices (event tracking, management and execution) in order to manage stakeholder engagements at organizational locations and tradeshow or demonstration events.
  • Manage technology demonstrations and tradeshow activities for key audiences to include budget and resource management authority.
  • Advise business units regarding strategic message, return on investment, and stakeholder outreach at such events.
  • Functional knowledge of media relations including ability to write and edit news releases, media advisories and social media content. Ability to formulate and execute media event plans at production, test or field locations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the Army and other Services to ensure effective communications. Integrate a variety of communication channels and approaches - traditional and social media, to reach both internal and external constituencies.
  • As applicable, coordinate w/Thales Group and North American Operations regarding execution of media related events and comply w/Thales brand standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's operating policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; effectives staff plans - assigning and directing work; performance appraisals, rewarding and providing for employee discipline when required; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Active mentoring and development of staff is a critical element of the supervisory responsibilities in order to create a high performing cohesive team.

Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship required - Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant work experience with internal, external and executive level communications.
  • 3+ years of recent experience in one or more of the following areas: Defense or Aerospace industry - Tactical Communications/EW (U.S. Army Customer experience Preferred), Defense Department network/EW related program public communications, or prior Thales experience.
  • Possess a working knowledge of U.S. Defense Department protocol practices.
  • Deep understanding and substantive expertise and knowledge of defense industry - tactical communications and Helmet Mounted Display (HMD).
  • Ability to formulate and lead marketing campaigns across multiple organizations and targeted to multiple customer bases.
  • Ability to foster teamwork across different functional areas within the organization.
  • Strong understanding of use and use cases of social and traditional media channels.
  • Familiarity with military public affairs/relations.
  • Proven leadership with ability to effectively create and execute to workforce plans to meet objectives and business strategic goals.
  • Qualified candidates must have excellent, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to create accurate & error-free content.
  • Proven experience in writing news and media articles and content.
  • Expert MS Office Skills.
  • This role requires regular domestic travel.
The annualized pay range for this role is $117,000-$149,500 USD, along with a target incentive compensation plan (ICP) of 10%. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience level for the role described above.
