Technician, Clinical Lab

Overview:
Able to work in all basic functions of a CLS in the main lab, blood bank and microbiology. Performs quality control procedures for routine and stat testing of patient samples. Maintains records; performs and records instrument maintenance; troubleshooting instrument and sample problems; regularly utilizes the lab computer for various aspects of daily work; verifies completion of work using the computer.Able to work independently in a generalist capacity while adhering to standard lab practices.
Responsibilities:
Regularly performs laboratory procedures in one or more of the scientific sections of the Clinical Lab.- As a specialist; performs all routine and other procedures.
- As a float; performs all routine procedures.
- Correct procedures done and 100% accuracy within procedure limits, and turnaround as stated in the procedure manual.
- Sets priorities for the workload to assure that we meet our TAT standards for our ER initiative.
- 100% compliance with QC protocols for running controls and accepting results.
- The supervisor is always notified of out of control, discrepant or unexpected results in a timely manner.
- Records are accurate and up to date.
- 100% compliance with instrument maintenance procedures.
- Participation as instructed by supervisor.
- Able to complete their assignments while closely supervising the trainee.
- Ensures that the department is properly supervised when assigned the responsibilities of the In-Charge CLS.
- Troubleshoots with the help of the hotline.
- Troubleshoots with the instrument manual.
- Able to independently detect and resolve instrument issues.
- Offers to assist in instrument repairs.
- Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform clerical functions at the reception area.
- Able to log in specimens without errors.
- All tests completed are properly charged.
- Maintains records in he Laboratory accurately and to Joint Commission Standards.
- Able to take the lead in the front office if necessary and manage the staff when in charge.
- Checks in Pathology specimens, corrects any incomplete orders and verifies proper preservatives.
- Familiar with all pertinent computer procedures and contingency procedures.
- Verifies that all assigned work is completed 100% of the time.
- Communicates in a clear, courteous and professional manner.
- Employee has the willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-needed basis or as determined by management.
- Follows established hospital and department policies.
- No more than 2 written substantiated complaints representing a reach of policy, procedure or professional behavior since last evaluation.
- Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept.
- Participates in group projects and staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity.
- Communicates well with supervisor reporting problems with equipment, supplies, or procedures. Requests assistance as appropriate.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Sciences with Medical Technology Internship
- Minimum Experience: 2 years acute hospital experience preferred
- Required Certification/Registration: CA Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP Certification preferred
