The Opportunity

Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Sr. Data Engineer. The Valvoline Retail Services Data Engineering team is building the future state of how Valvoline will use data to support our stores and our customers. To help us continue that progress, we are looking to onboard a data engineering architect who can help us implement our data fabric and mature our use of the data mesh capabilities to manage and consume our new data estate for analytics. In this role, you will be responsible for:

How You'll Make a Difference
  • Driving the initial adoption and growth of the utilization of our end-user data consumer strategy as part of the larger data mesh implementation across technology and the business.
  • Utilizing a strong understanding of the Microsoft end-user tools, including Office 365 and PowerBI, for consuming cloud data, especially directly connected to AWS Data Lake Services and the Data Zone management suite.
  • Exhibiting a current understanding of how modern data fabrics are managed with data mesh for usage, policy design, enforcement, and life cycle implementation and improvements.
  • Exhibiting a current understanding of AWS storage and serverless compute layers to implement data lakes with the ability to execute queries via the Athena and data lake services.
  • Establishing how end-user compute (and specifics about the Valvoline business) can be securely and flexibly leveraged for analytics and self-service reporting.
  • Understanding and implementing data warehousing and data lake principles, including data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and database administration.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/computer engineering or related field, or relevant years of experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience
  • Python (PySpark)
  • SQL
  • AWS Services
  • Glue
  • S3
  • Lake Formation
  • Athena
  • DynamoDB
  • IAM (preferred)
  • Or Azure equivalent of the above services
  • GitHub
  • PowerBI (preferred)
  • Jupyter notebooks (preferred)
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
