RESEARCH DESCRIPTION: The Barker Lab’s research interests broadly focus on wound healing and disorders of abnormal wound healing. These include projects related to non-healing wound biology such as that associated with osteomyelitis, excess scar formation (keloid disease), host interaction with biomaterials and basic biologic processes necessary for normal wound healing with a focus on endolysosomal biology.

Projects span from those with predominantly basic-science focus to translational science and clinical research. There is an emphasis on technology commercialization in our lab and collaboration with industry where applicable. The lab works closely with other surgeon-scientist laboratories that include pediatric surgery and ENT surgeon-scientists within the Center for Regenerative Medicine.

We are looking to fill 1-2 postdoc positions with highly motivated individuals that can drive projects independently and explore additional but connected areas. The projects include the establishment of in vitro and in vivo osteomyelitis and biofilm models, and protein biochemical characterization of lysosomal proteins involved in wound healing.
Candidates should have a background in standard molecular biology techniques including cell culture, DNA, RNA and protein-based techniques such as immunohistochemistry, western blot, and ELISA. Experience with techniques in microbiology or mouse models is appreciated.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D.
  • Strong background in molecular biology including cell culture, DNA, RNA and protein-based methodology such as immunohistochemistry, western blot, and ELISA and other relevant techniques.
  • Prior knowledge and practical experience in murine models and conditional knockout mice is preferred.
  • -Or- Prior knowledge with methodology in microbiology is preferred.
  • Candidates should be capable of designing and carrying out high-level, complex research experiments independently.
  • Applicants with a good track record of publication are desirable, along with effective communication skills and scientific writing skills.
