SESI proudly serves more than 7,000 students in over 95-day schools and more than 90 in-district classrooms and partners with over 600 school districts nationwide. SESI is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED).

Overview:

The Regional Vice President (RVP) for the California region is responsible for collaboratively leading a learning community ensuring that it operates in a cohesive and effective manner in accordance with the mission of SESI and in compliance with all Special Education laws and regulations.

The RVP must demonstrate team leadership, client relationship management, and drive operational success.

Responsibilities:

Leadership
  • Overall region/program management. Ensure all programmatic, operational, and compliance related goals and objectives for students, staff, and customers meet and exceed benchmark goals.
  • Manage, grow, improve, and enhance programs for the region that are consistent with the strategic plans of SESI, and ensure the effective operation and delivery of programs.
  • Effectively and continually communicate the vision and mission of SESI to a wide variety of stakeholders in the region.
  • Serve as a role model for establishing appropriate positive morale and attitude towards work.
  • Maintain the positive, collaborative, passionate culture of SESI in the region.
Resource Management and Development
  • Manage all budgeting, forecasting, and financial management within region. Ensure all business objectives are met. Develop and lead growth initiatives within region.
  • Ensure program quality and effective program evaluation; monitor and provide guidance on student performance and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting programs in the region.
  • Oversee performance and effectiveness of regional staff, including Regional Directors, Executive Directors and Program Directors, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional development, to assure that school staff functions well and program goals are attained.
  • Take an active role as a partner to regional staff and the SESI recruiting staff to ensure programs are fully-staffed and retention of staff through talent development is ensured.
  • Ensure that assembled staff can demonstrate appropriate skills, ability, and training to meet the demands of the education programs within the region.
  • Maintain appropriate and regular communication with all staff.
  • Work with Regional Directors to resolve problems quickly and effectively as they arise.
  • Assure that instructional staff, physical facilities, instructional materials and equipment are adequate.
  • Keep appropriate corporate support staff informed of contract activities.
  • Provide necessary information and communicate regularly to supervisors.
  • With support of the HR department, oversee recruitment, selection, evaluation, retention, and, if necessary, termination of direct service staff. Also ensure appropriate leadership bench strength across region.
Program Management and Development
  • Intimately understand and implement the terms and conditions of all contracts and state-level certification requirements for all programs within region.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with representatives of School District partners.
  • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of changes in school related regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Participate as an active member of CAPSES, the non-public advocacy group in CA.
  • Nurture and maintain deep relationships with stakeholders at the state and district-level to ensure both satisfaction and growth of all programs.
  • With Regional Directors, ensure maintenance of customer relationships year-over-year.
  • Develop a strategic plan for optimal renewal of contracts for the region each year and for growth in enrollment capacity by site.
  • Assume active lead role in the development of new opportunities for growth as well as start-up, implementation and integration of all new programs within region.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with all corporate support service departments to assure effective use of resources within the region, ensure compliance with all contract and state-level certification requirements as well as with appropriate laws and corporate policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Strong business acumen, including knowledge and demonstrated success managing budgets for multiple locations and/or units and success in developing and implementing effective operations.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in leadership roles working with students with behavioral challenges and/or at-risk youth or business leadership experience in a related education setting.
  • Strong leader with the ability to oversee the California region and contribute to the mission and high-quality programs and operations of SESI.
  • Deep knowledge of at risk-youth and students with behavioral challenges as well as understanding of education related regulation and legislation across state of California.
  • Ability to ensure ongoing quality of core business functions, including finance, operations, and program development/evaluation.
  • Superb customer service and stakeholder engagement and management experience.
  • Exceptional track record of maintaining and growing business units and/or programs.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as part of a leadership team and ability to partner effectively and collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Overall leadership skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Experience in building, developing, and motivating collaborative, strong, diverse, teams of highly talented individuals to achieve program goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with an infectious enthusiasm for the mission and the ability to engage and inspire others.
  • A master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership/Administration, Social Services, or other related educational fields from an accredited college or university is required. A master’s degree in Business Administration will also be considered.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 60%.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours) with occasional walking and lifting.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus for computer work.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person and over the phone.
