We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious, experienced AWS Operations Engineer to drive our AWS-based operations environment, focusing on EKS, CI/CD, and service automation. The ideal candidate will have robust experience in AWS native services, Kubernetes, and utilizing languages/tools such as Ansible or Python to automate tasks and ensure seamless, automated, and resilient operations in the cloud.

Candidate will be expected to be a part of a systems operator team in AWS cloud environment addressing incident issues. Candidate will also be responsible for evaluating current operations tasks, ensuring they are properly documented and optimized to lead in converting and automating for systems administrators to execute.

The position will be a remote role working with a Federal client. The position is open to US citizens with an ACTIVE SECRET security clearance.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Optimize the monitoring and overall management of the AWS environments, with a particular emphasis on EKS, EC2, Lambda, RDS, and API Gateway.
  • Manage the troubleshooting and maintenance of current CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins/GitLab) per request from other teams.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, using Ansible, Python, or a language of choice to improve and optimize cloud processes, ensuring the availability, security and scalability of mission applications
  • Address identity management and certificate management tasks using RedHat IDM, AWS IAM, and AWS Certificate Manager, ensuring secure access and administration.
  • Maintain the current secrets management solutions, primarily using Vault and AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Act in a support role for developer teams leveraging the AWS CLI and SDKs for automation, application deployment, and application integrations.
  • Identify and Propose updates to the cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
  • Analyze existing processes, recommending, and leading the implementation of best practices to optimize their results.
  • Troubleshoot issues in real-time, conducting root cause analyses for platform anomalies and leading postmortem examinations to implement resiliency actions and lessons learned behaviors.
  • Collaborate with development teams, providing cloud infrastructure support and guidance to codify intake request processes and promote self-sufficiency where it makes sense.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work closely with customer to implement and/or consult requested solutions.
  • Possess considerable logic and understanding to analyze and troubleshoot problems
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no daily supervision, is a team player, open to ideas and learning.
  • Work in a distributed team environment where team members are spread across numerous locations and often communicate virtually to support clients.
Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience
  • Required skills:
  • Solid experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux or other Linux distributions.
  • Proficient in scripting using languages like Python, Perl, or any shell scripting language like BASH.
  • In-depth experience building, troubleshooting, and maintaining AWS services, especially EKS, and other AWS native services like Lambda, EC2, RDS, and API Gateway.
  • Proficient in using Ansible configuration management and automation.
  • Experience with RedHat IDM for identity management and HashiCorp Vault for secrets management.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS CLI, SDKs, and other automation tools.
  • Familiarity with standard DevSecOps tools such as Jenkins/GitLab, Git, Nexus, Sonarqube, Terraform, etc.
  • Ability to work with US Federal clients and possess an ACTIVE SECRET clearance
  • Desired Skills:

Education Requirement:

  • 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Eng or related (highly preferred)
