Aerodynamics Test Equipment Engineer, New Programs Engineering
Tesla's Aerodynamics team is looking for a world class engineer to lead the design, installation, commissioning and development of our new wind tunnel test facility and help us to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. You will put your extensive knowledge of wind tunnel systems into high gear as we revolutionize the way we develop new vehicle programs for maximum efficiency, comfort, stability and reliability, to meet the demands of a low cost, electric, autonomous future.
The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of advanced automotive wind tunnel systems that can accurately simulate and capture data for real world driving conditions. You will exercise technical expertise in designing, developing, operating and maintaining test equipment, and excellence in leadership coordinating buildout and commissioning activities, growing the team and training others on best practices.
- Participate in the Tesla wind tunnel design and build
- Coordinate and participate in wind tunnel commissioning activities
- Hire, train and lead a small group of engineers and technicians to manage the facility
- Ensure safe, efficient and effective operation and maintenance of the equipment
- Design and implement technology and process improvements to continually evolve testing and development capabilities
- Design and implement bespoke test equipment to meet prevailing project needs
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in automotive/motorsport wind tunnel testing environments
- Expert knowledge of wind tunnel mechanical, electrical and/or software systems, including rolling road, model motion and flow visualization systems
- A track record of delivering on challenging technical projects
- A dynamic and can-do attitude with a bias for action
- Team and project leadership experience
- Expert proficiency using CAD packages, including Catia, 3DX and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with Beckhoff TwinCAT and Cosworth Diablo preferred
- A passion for sustainable energy or related technologies
