Pre-College programs runs throughout the year. Held in New York City and Washington, D.C., Summer Academy provides an immersive environment during 2-week terms in which students from across the globe learn, investigate and explore while having fun and discovering friends, mentors and instructors who share their interests.

August Writing Workshop, a one-week course in which students use interviewing skills to explore New York City, strengthen their writing and create a portfolio piece that covers city life through critical technique and creative exploration. With New York City as their classroom, Gap Year students emerge with an expanded world view, a sharp sense of perspective on a wide range of topics, and strong critical thinking and communication skills that will prepare them for college, career and lifelong success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following, but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

The Academics Intern will work with the Pre-College Division on projects that support the planning and execution of programs at The School of The New York Times such as Summer Academy, Writing Workshop and Gap Year. This position has an end date of May 31, 2020.

This project requires the following in the role of an Academics Intern:

  • Create, update and maintain Academics’ team databases, logs and inventory;
  • Assist with research for instructional staff, making recommendations;
  • Manage communications with students and parents regarding educational technology;
  • Collaborate with Program Manager to improve Ed Tech uses campus-wide;
  • Archive photos, data and writing pieces as necessary;
  • Oversee classroom supplies and equipment;
  • Other duties, including administrative tasks, to be assigned.

A successful applicant will have an interest in educational programming, policy and models and may conduct this internship for credit or for as a contractor.
