About the Job:

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Mortgage Loan Sales Assistant. The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties to assist experienced loan originators including marketing efforts, administrative and clerical assistance, follow up, and troubleshooting.

Duties may also include assisting and qualifying potential borrowers by answering questions about the loan process, quoting rates, and taking applications.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. INTERNAL MARKETING
Receives and handles calls from applicants, builders and/or realtors on behalf of the loan originator, as needed. In Loan Originator's absence, may meet to qualify potential borrowers, quote loan rates, answer questions, and discuss loan programs to meet the borrowers needs.

May take application from borrower complying with all related regulations. Seeks opportunities to enable Originator to spend majority of time developing new business.

  1. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Assists in tracking Originator's sales contacts. Follows up with prospective borrowers by phone or mail on behalf of Originator to ensure a timely response. Participates on joint sales calls with Originator as well as performing occasional follow up calls.

Identifies opportunities to sell additional bank products or services.

  1. EXTERNAL MARKETING

Participates in creating marketing tools (rate sheets, realtor/builder property spread sheets, etc.) to enhance sales presentations. Prepares all materials prior to Originator's sales calls. Makes effective recommendations for sales and marketing ideas to increase business to Originator and Production Manager.

  1. TROUBLESHOOTING

Provides assistance to processing staff in obtaining documentation, underwriting conditions, or any items needed for loan approval or settlement. Answers questions from borrowers, as needed, throughout the loan process.

Required Skills:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Position requires 2 to 3 years of banking or lending experience to include exposure to mortgage banking principles. Two to 4 years of mortgage loan experience in origination and/or processing to gain an understanding of mortgage loan procedures and concepts is highly desired. A demonstrated aptitude for sales and marketing is required. Good organization skills are needed.
  2. Intermediate to advanced personal computer skills for applications such as Microsoft Office is required.
  3. A varied level of problem solving skills are required. Situations require operational knowledge of work and may involve a wide range of possible solutions.
  4. Strong communication skills are needed to establish rapport with external contacts. Persuasion, good judgement, and professionalism are required to obtain desired result.
  5. Work requires independent judgement to plan and carry out duties. Initiative and the ability to work independently are important to the position.
  6. NMLS registration number or ability to obtain one required.

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.

Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.

Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.

Compensation Information:

At Sandy Spring Bank, compensation is one part of our total rewards package. Compensation within the range will depend on your skills, qualifications, education, experience, and location.
