The Data Center Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the optimal operation of servers, network equipment, and other critical infrastructure within a data center environment. This role involves hands-on hardware and software support, monitoring system performance, and adhering to strict operational protocols to ensure uptime and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Hardware Installation and Maintenance:
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, network devices, and storage systems.
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and repair or replace faulty components.
  • Ensure proper cabling and connectivity between devices.
  1. Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
  • Monitor data center systems and environmental conditions (temperature, power, etc.).
  • Identify and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly.
  • Escalate complex problems to higher-level support teams or vendors as needed.
  1. System and Network Management:
  • Perform routine system checks, updates, and patches.
  • Support network configuration and connectivity tasks.
  • Maintain inventory and documentation of hardware, software, and network configurations.
  1. Operational Support:
  • Adhere to data center protocols and security standards.
  • Assist with capacity planning and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all systems comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  1. Collaboration and Reporting:
  • Work closely with IT teams to implement and support data center projects.
  • Provide regular updates on system health, performance, and incidents.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions for knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field preferred).
  • Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience in data center operations, IT support, or a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with server hardware, networking equipment, and cabling.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows Server, or other operating systems.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (e.g., VLANs, IP addressing, firewalls).
  • Experience with data center tools such as monitoring software and ticketing systems.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
