Summer Camp Unit Leader
This position is responsible for leading campers ages 5-18 and monitoring and supervising staff in a specific camp unit, ensuring the safety of all children at camp, leading a group in activities daily, participating in planning and implementing quality YMCA programming, serving as a positive role model to the campers.

Responsibilities:
- Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily program in accordance with YMCA policies, and ACA standards under the direct supervision of the Camp Director
- Plan and implement lesson plans in areas of outdoor education, arts & crafts, cooking, sports or recreational games, drama, singing, team building and science
- Create an age-appropriate learning environment, which allows for and fosters creativity and individuality in the campers
- Establish and maintain effective communication with staff and parents
- Overall management and constant supervision of a camp unit which includes staff and campers
- Understand and follow all YMCA Day Camp policies and procedures
- Be alert and attentive and respond to needs of individual campers
- Implement activity schedule, supervise field trips, and provide supply list for camp unit to Camp Leadership
- Accurately document camper attendance, medical and emergency information
- Monitor and report enrollment of group sizes to Camp Leadership
- Adhere to work schedule and be prepared for activities at the beginning of each shift
- Work cooperatively with vendors in the camp setting
- Adheres to YMCA Dress Code & Code of Conduct and Mission Statement
- Work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 core values
- Ability to supervise and interact with staff and campers
- The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills
- Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm in all phases of work with campers
- Other duties as assigned needs to be included to all roles
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age and a high school graduate
- At least two years of experience working with youth in a Day Camp or like setting
- Staff supervision experience preferred
- Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of campers ages 5-16, as well as parents and staff of diverse ethnic populations
- Skills to lead campers in at least four of the following areas: recreational games, drama, crafts, outdoor education, songs, sports, aquatics, team building or science
- Complete Mandatory 24 hour pre-camp training
- Complete Inservice trainings and staff meetings as assigned, including Unit
- Leader Training and Child Abuse Prevention Training
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
Pay Range: USD $19.00 - USD $20.19 /Hr.
